Nasturtiums

Post: # 99380Post SarahJane »

I have planted 2 lots of nasturtiums. One lots out in the cold greenhouse ( a few weeks ago) and a second lot, on the kitchen window sill ( about 10 days ago. )
The ones outside have yet to appear, the ones inside sprouted almost straight away but are very long and leggy. They are already a good couple of inches long, have just separated about an inch or so up with 2 lots of leaves on each stem.
I know they are a trailing/climbing variety. Shall I just let them " do their thing" and grow how they want and add them to my hanging baskets. Or should I be nipping leaves off to make them produce more leaves?
This may sound a daft question, but I know what I mean!

I have loads of nasturtiums popping up in the garden - they self seeded a few years ago and have been doing so ever since.

I just leave them to it. So - pretty low/nil maintenance really. :cooldude:

Is is Nas-tur-tee-ums OR Nas-tur-shooms??
Been wondering for a few days and I've never heard anyone say that word in English (only read it)

shooms!

I do the same as Mrs Moustoir - usually only have a few plants germinate because up until last year they get decimated by black fly - but last year they grew magnificently and subsequently I have thousands of seeds all over the place. I'm going to be hoeing them off like crazy!

SarahJane - I would really recommend that you sow a couple more seed outdoors so they won't be leggy like your indoor ones. Just be patient!
