My intro

Post: # 96246Post johnhcrf »

Hello, all!

You were recommended to me by Neeps.
My current interest is a campaign (ZeroWastePackaging) to achieve zero bin waste, eventually. The superstores will not do it themselves, so we the consumers should encourage change.
Karen Cannard of The Rubbish Diet blog along with myself and others are considering a forum. What is your best advice?

Regards,

John

hello! i read the The Rubbish Diet blog. I found it really helpful and inspirational and we're currently working on our waste. To date we have gone 10 weeks and barely filled half a wheely bin so we're doing fairly well. Our current carrier bag for rubbish is going into its 3rd week.

A forum would be a good idea, you just have to make sure everyone respects each other and silly little bickering doesn't break out. That's the great thing about here, everyone treats each other well and there is a good chance for healthy debate without fear of nastiness.

Karen is an important figure as she represents the family situation where usually the woman is in charge of shopping and waste detail. I am a fully domesticated man, unusual to say the least, and I share the home woman's perspective, though from a male point of view. Where women may accept the situation, I differ in that I think change has to come and the consumer must no longer accept the rubbish doled out from superstores etc. We are even blamed for the waste we create by these same people.
ZWP is your way of giving them a wake-up call. An example - Pears soap's package is 100% card, Imperial Leather has 2 plastic packs. Choose accordingly.
I emailed Cussons saying why I chose Pears. Give them the message!

How about making your own soap, for example, then there is a lot less waste.

Pear's soap has ZWP and that is good enough. Toothpaste is another matter. These tubes are total waste. Make a good safe type, with ZWP, and make your green fortune

It's really easy to set up your own forum John - there are plenty of free forum places available

Thanks, Shirlz. My ideas have changed since arriving. My campaigning and contacts do not require a forum. The idea was to build a NEEPS like one where people with handicrafts, art skills etc could showcase their work. My current idea is to ask Karen Cannard to join in as this would boost the waste message. She is currently taking a week's break and seemed at least interested.
Do you think I have made a positive contribution here or am I a square peg in a round hole?
