Well I could wait no longer - in the first greehouse the tomatoes are growing out of their pots and I need the space to sow runners and dwarf beans - so I have planted out the toms in the half glazed 2nd greenhouse.

I hope we do not get a cold snap or I come into some money so I can buy some more glass.

Out walking the dog this evening and my partner says - why not put the tent flysheet over the greenhouse to keep it warm at night. Brilliant!

Now I can sleep knowing the plants are snug and warm

I sowed them 20th Feb in a heated propagator and then when they hatched grew them on in heated greenhouse (the uncovered one inthe pic) - well it has a fan heater with the thermostat set about 5C to keep the frost at bay and lined with bubble wrap.

There could still be a frost here yet - its damp, grey and horrid here right now. I would not trust the weather until mid May.
I put a Wanted post in the local Freecycle yesterday and someone has just offered some glass I can have - yippee!

My seedlings are still TINY! I sowed them on 20th february and they took about 10-14 days to germinate ... this time last year year they were so much bigger ... but it was so much warmer.

Come on sunshine ... hurry up and stay put!!

I sowed mine 5 weeks ago then pricked them out when they were a spindly pathetic 3 inches high. I buried the stem in the new pot.

Now they are tall and spindly again and have their 3rd leaf, but the leaves are being scorched on a sunny windowsill.

What can I do?

They must have as much light as possible because they are so pathetically spindly (and I have to keep turning them about 5 times a day) yet they are getting scorched by the sun - and it certainly isn't hot or even more than vaguely warm yet!

I would buy in plants from the garden centre but there is never any choice other than Sweet F100 which always, always, have hard inedible skins, so no good for eating raw.

You just can't win here.
