Belfast sink.

I have an old belfast sink that I would like to grow something in. The only space I have left for it is under the kitchen window, where, at this time of year it doesnt get alot of sun. In the height of summer it is sunny until mid afternoon , then it is back in the shade.

I am wondering what to grow in it. Should I be a bit decadent and grow some flowers, or, should I be sensible and grow some kind of veggies or maybe a small herb garden? But would herbs be ok in the shade? I am not so sure.

Any good ideas folks?

Some herbs, I'm sure, would be ok. Our mint used to thrive in the shadiest part of the garden, no problem... Maybe some edible flowers, so you have the best of both worlds? Calendula, perhaps?

I grow herbs (sage, thyme, tarragon and savoury) in an old sink in exactly that kind of position, and they all outstrip my culinary demands. The rosemary is in a big pot right next to it, and it's now a 3-foot bush.

What about nasturtium's ? lovely to look at, trail about in a wonderful manner, edible flowers, leaves and seeds can be pickled as capers in the autumn ...

dang, I was going to say that!

chives are pretty and edible too

or mint.. since it has to be contained or it takes over the world...

You could put chives and nasturtiums in ... chives towards the back ...

There's so many different mints, too - I was given a chocolate mint last year - definitely After Eight flavour, and NOT Nestle!
