godfreyrob - It is something that I read up on a bit before moving out here and deciding to have a self sufficient-ish lifestyle, having been a sceptic previously too, but happy to go with a traditional flow of doing things both from growing up on a smallholding and seeing what our farming neighbours were doing.

And I can only say - for myself personally - having arrived here, sown things out and then got on with the more important job of renovating our farmhouse to provide us with a building that had actually got doors and windows, and heating and plumbing not to mention the all important bathroom - I certainly did nothing more in the garden than plant by lunar guidelines, companion plant, and use only natural preparations to treat and fertilise the soil. There was no specific seedling care, additional weeding other than the initial ploughing and rotavating, or watering as opposed to the copious rain fall - quite simply we did not have the time. In fact I would say our garden was actually quite neglected last year.

But - we had good healthy crops and lots of them.

So - it worked for me and I am happy.

I had such great plans to try and follow biodynamic gardening, even managed to dupe the OH into waiting til the right date making daft excuses to stop him on wrong dates (don't think he will wear Moon ideas just yet)

Then the weather was just a git for weeks and suddenly we had a perfect weekend so I couldn't resist planting everything! Oh well, best made plans. (Worst still think I may have been cught out by a bit of frost too  )

Planted some potatoes today and just noticed in the old farmers almanac I am a bit early. Just thought the weather was starting to warm up a bit this week. (North Yorkshire)

I have occasionally come across the term Biodynamic Gardening and in fact there is a Biodynamic Seed supplier just up the road from me, Demeter Seeds. I have bought seeds from them but have never understood the concept. Perhaps someone could explain in no more that 20 words. Now there's a challenge.

I have planted 51 sets today and have 54 still to plant. I will wait until the next recommended planting period to plant the other 54.
