Mr. QB and I spoke to our Registering Officer on Sunday and are now planning our wedding! Yeay

I made half of my outfit, my friend made the other half, we left the registry office on the trike and me and my mother did all the food and I made and iced the cake. The reception was at my house and we borrowed the neighbours gazebo. Extra accommodation was provided in my caravan.
In all it was a lot less stressful than a formal wedding I think.
It suited us as the day we got married we had only known each other four months exactly. Four year later we are still together and happy.

Congratulations - and don't hold back in having an ish wedding.

We set ourselves a budget of £2500 8 years ago for our wedding - and decided that out of that we wanted a fortnight holiday in the sun too.

So went and booked a fortnight in Spain and then spent the rest on the wedding and reception. Did the food and drink between family and friends, had the reception at home, bought a gazebo which we still use now, and put people up in the house and garden.

I made my dress and veil and customised OH's suit and made a waistcoat and cravat to match my dress for him.

No debt incurred, no wasted money, fantastic time had by all.

I had an ish wedding.. asked friends and family not to bring pressies but to help decorate the village hall.. which we did with fairly lights and lots of greenery - Friends played music and sang, and we had a ceilidh - a lot of fun.

main thing tho, is to be happy with the marriage not the wedding, and it certainly sounds like you are!

I must have felt the vibrations and started to write a rough outline for a third book, here's my notes.

Ideas – grow your own wedding.


Green Wedding – Take a year planning, grow flowers, buying dress from charity shop and pimp it to tailor it for the brides tastes. Everything green and much much cheaper than a real wedding. But must be a traditional church wedding just to show that this can be done. Hire suit for groom, is this greener??

Food as it has to be local and organic, do we grow that as well?? Perhaps even rearing two pigs and lambs over a year. Cook the food in solar ovens or hay box cookers.

Send emails for invites and instead of telegrams.

Horse and cart instead of car.

Honeymoon overland travel or perhaps somewhere in the uk

Well I made my own dress, and my flowergirl's dress, and cloaks (it was december)
we had our wedding in a registry office and had the reception at a hothouse in one of Glasgows Parks (Queenspark, if anyone knows it) decorated with fairy lights and candles.
A local Jazz band played the tunes
My Sister made the cake
A friend did the flowers, I would have prefered wild flowers from the park, but he was a florist and it was his gift to us.
We had a chinese carry out and indian snacks later, everyone brought their own drinks... Not very green but at least it isn't on-site caterers and bar.
John wore his kilt (ex-rental) and a plain black t-shirt and jumper, something very attractive about a casual style kilt

I wanted to take the bus from the registry office to the reception, but was given a lift instead... then we got a lift home at night too (squeezed into a Micra with 3 other people...lol...

We left for our 'honey-moon' the next day, walked 2 miles to the underground and 20 mins later we were at a hotel in the west end of the city...


There are so many ways to do it, and as Red says it is the marriage that is important, not the wedding.

oh yeh forgot.. I made my own dress - and it was my first go at dress making! (looked a little homemade, but I dont mind) - had enough left over material to make himself a waistcoat (i was on a roll by then) and, as my dress was green, naturally , I remade it into a skirt so I can get further use out of it. Still have some green silk left over.. going to make more from it..

My shoes - bit indulgent, got handmade leather sandles made in the town (town=hippy place.. two shops sell mulitcoloured handmade shoes...) - also further use.

Asked for favours rather than presents as more useful to us, and did not want unnecessary unwanted stuff.
and we had locally made pasties!!, and a barrel of local beer...
