I shop at woolies for toys at Christmas. I also buy my nephews vouchers from there so they can choose their own game/DVD/CD .

I used to buy my first sons baby outfits from there, and they were lovely quality, but these days they aren't much cop. Much the same as everything to be honest.

It's not just woolies that's gone to the dogs, it's EVERYWHERE. Everything is crap quality these days.

Ina is right -Woolworths are trailing having Somerfield concessions (where one retailer rents a space in another retailer's unit) and if it is successful it will be expanded.

Woolworth know their downfall - most of you know too by the above posts. Sadly they are loosing business to supermarkets who have pushed their non food offer to the max. Why go into town to Woolies for the pyrex jug on Saturday morning when you can get it at Azda when you do the weekly shop on Friday after work? By joining forces with Somerfield, I imagine that by being in town, they want top jump on the worker who has nothing for their dinner and nips in for a ready meal and picks up the pyrex jug at the same time.

Concessions don't need planning, (assuming the lease allows it, but 99% I have had the pleasure of reading do) so it's an easy way onto the High Street for Somerfield.

To confuse the issue, the Co-op are looking at buying Somerfield which is failing anyhoo.....

And who's next in line to buy up the Co-op? :?

Can't be long until there's only one big one left! :?

I remember reading somewhere in the dim and distant past that in a handful of years, the world's food supply would be in the hands of only 10 companies.

Extremely worrying and ultimately possible.

Mind you, the Co being a Mutual Society will probably go under before it gets bought out.

I seem to remember that woolies had a deal like this with "Peacocks" a few years ago, selling their clothes in store......That didn't last long

well, this morning found 'er indoors and myself in our local town - we parked right outside Woolies, so probably as a result of this thread I suggested we risked a quick walk round as I had dim and distant memories of them being very good for roses...........
They are BRILLIANT for roses - normal price - £3.99, discounted to 99p........along with real giveaways on seeds (their own brand virtually given away), shrubs, things like redcurrants and peaches.............if you still need plants for the garden - get into Woolies, shedloads of really good stuff at prices that make you feel guilty!

I saw some plants in our woolies but they looked like they hadn't been watered in weeks. Almost dead. IMHO a spray with weedkiller would be the kindest act. Perhaps it's just the Swindon one.

I'd turn Woolies into a DIY, alternative technology, downsizing onestop for compost toilets, solar showers and all that. Set up a junkshop where people can trade their tat, even a store for baby clothes sorted by age and sex.

that'd do some good, methinks.
Be good, take care, have fun

I think the usual type of customer they get would think they'd come to the wrong planet! Not a bad idea, though - that kind of thing is really missing.
