Just because I feel so good about it, woke up yesterday 26/01/06 to snow just a thin carpet but it makes everything look clean and wonderfully pretty.
Then Fiona called me over to see the new arrivals 8 newborn Rabbits, and then to cap that more snow this morning and our wonderful little broody hen who hatched 6 eggs for us late last year, has just done the job for us again 4 new chicks this morning and still 5 other eggs which should come in the next few days.
For me these are the real highs of self-sufficiency it makes all the cold wet days of French winters melt in to insignificants.

We have yet to come up with theme for Rabbit names so no names to find, we tend not to name the animals we are going to eat. Our cows are named after flowers Poppy, Clover, and Jasmine that’s Poppies baby from last year, we will have to find 2 new names for cows in march. Our pigs are all named after apples Brambly, Pippin (coxes orange), Rennet (Orleans) Star (king) and Pappion; which is not an apple but she has a wonderful butterfly pattern on her, and of course our Boar whose name is James Grieve. We have eaten Splodge and Patch who were wonderful both in life and after.
See what happens when you ask questions.
It is in fact tooooooo cold for babies the books get it wrong all the time, rabbits should not mate without 14 hours daylight and chickens should not sit in less than 11 hours day light. I have given up expecting the book to get it right all the time; the Big Man & nature have the last say all the time.
I will be posting some more photos soon now that my long lost camera has shown up with all the memory cards full of photos from last year.
