Does anyone have bantams?

Do you keep livestock? Having any problems? Want to talk about it, whether it be sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, bees or llamas, here is your place to discuss.

Does anyone have bantams?

Post: # 95360Post Teasal »

I have kept chickens for many years, and always liked to have a few bantams as well. I had three that a friend gave me, a mother and two daughters. I have only recently lost them to old age - Mum got to 14 and the girls both 13. I keep my animals and poultry all their lives!

I liked the bantams because they do seem to go broody, unlike my hens, which don't very often, which is a shame, as I would like to breed a few chickens, having a couple of very nice Rhode Island Red cockerels.

Anyway, I am now looking round for a few bantams and a cockerel (although what the surrounding neighbours will think heaven knows, as they must be awakened by the two Charlies every daybreak!)

Although I am not adverse to paying for them, I do prefer to take in unwanted/homeless ones -they will be given a home for life, and cared for very well. And hopefully will live to a ripe old age, like my previos ones.

If anyone knows of any in the Greater Manchester/ N. Derbyshire area, I would be grateful if you let me know. Likewise, if you know of any breeders of bantams, where I could perhaps buy a few from.

Thanks.

My friend just down the road has loads of Bantam cockerels that are looking for a new home - but unless you are planning a holiday in Scotland in the near future, that would be a bit far to come!
