Hello from Iowa

Post: # 94317Post kashmir »

I'm trying to be more self-sufficientish and greenish and I'm very shortly getting chickens. Oh, and I live in the city, about ten blocks away from the skyscrapers. I cloth diapered my kids, youngest is eight now. I built a solar cooker and I have organic gardened for many years now. I compost and recycle so well we hardly have any trash to take out most weeks. Plus I'm often heard saying, "Don't throw that out, I can still use it," much to the chagrin of my husband!

Hiya Carrie - welcome to the Ishers! I'm wondering how you manage to do all these things in a city!

Well, keeping chickens is legal in our city (you can have up to 30 if you have less than an acre, up to 50 if you have more than one acre. Although I'm not planning on the full 30! The rest is accomplished by the fact that although I am close to the skyscrapers etc. I am actually in an historic neighborhood, and we have yards etc. I used to have a little house set on a large yard, but now I have a large house set on a little yard

Thanks for the welcome, everyone here is so nice (and informative too!).

They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?
