Hello from Danesmoor in Derbyshire
Hi all,
Been lurking around on this site for a while now - isn't it fantastic!
As for me... I'm doing all I can to become greener and would like to start become self-sufficient'ish. Here are some of my green credentials:
* I usually cycle to work (Sheffield a 36 mile roundtrip). Started doing this on an electric bike (an eZee Torq) but then moved on to a normal bike;
* All my lightbulbs are now energy saving EXCEPT for all those pesky downlighters and spotlights in my kitchen which I'm in the process of changing to LED jobbies;
* Recently starting filling gaps in my fridge and freezer with empty plastic milk bottles to make it more efficient;
* Have just taken delivery of a Green Johanna hot composter. This will allow me to turn all my kitchen waste (cooked stuff included) into usefull compost rather than taking up landfill hopefully!
* Am waiting for a water butt to be delivered;
* Just followed a link on this site to another site where a guy grows all his plants in plastic bottles - I fancy having a go at that :-);
* Have a freeplay Summit wind up radio - it's great quality build and sound and I can recommend it. Gave it an initial charge from the mains as they suggest, but have only ever used human power since;
* Am starting to tinker with pv solar power - I think in the short term I would just like to be able to power my laptop, a light or two, maybe the TV and DVD player. I've also bought a secondhand 12v water heater with the intention of having this in the kitchen and fed by the water butt - no idea if it's really viable (for rinsing out bottles and tins/doing the washing up etc) or not but I'll give it a go!;
* I'm ebaying off lots of books and things at the moment and I always use newspapers, cardboard, cereal boxes, shredded paper etc for my packaging, finished off in brown paper. It takes more time than a Jiffy bag, but is obviously much greener and I think my little brown parcels are much nicer to receive too :-) ;
So, I've made a start with the recycling and renewable energy side of things, but I really need to start growing some of my own food which I don't do at all yet.
I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of timed reading all the helpfull stuff on this site!

Hello and welcome!
They're not weeds - that's a habitat for wildlife, don't you know?
