Sorry to hear about your hens
Is this a fox or a dog track ??? - It killed my hens....
looks like the tracks my neighbours Jack Russel left in our garden, I had thought it was a badger... I measured them too and got the some measurements as you did.

As someone who has suffered from fox attacks I would say that 1. That is not a fox track (for the same reasons as stated before) but it looks too big to be a terrier (unless large terrier breed). 2. Foxes do not shake their kills. They bite the heads straight off, all other wouNds are caused by the fox trying to get to the head. Dogs get excited about things that run away and hens run and flap.
I don't want to sound at all critical and I'm not trying to make you feel bad in any way, but to protect your birds reasonably from fox attacks your fence should be at least 6ft high and be buried 18 inches into the ground. If you live on the edge of fields you may want to put an electric fence around too. Even this cannot totally prevent an attack - but it will reduce the chance of it happening.
I really feel for you and your loss. I lost all of mine in May last year. All beheaded and only 3 eaten and 1 died of shock.
Nature can be a B*****d.
