Hip pain
It's driving me nuts, I can't get rid of it and it's like a hot gnawing bone pain!
Anyone have any really good ideas for how to relieve the pain a bit, I've had this on and off for about two years but this is the worst attack.

I am suffering under a damaged hip and lived all my life with hip pain. I just came back from the doc and got some xrays taken and might need a new hip. Call me "Bionic Pete".
Anyway, what helps me is a hot bath with a muscle relaxing additive i.e. Radox Muscle Soak. We have a massage bath which is even better.
If you have joint problems, try glucosamine. I take them since years now and they help me very much!
Apart from this, see a doctor! If you have arthritis you really should get it checked out! It will affect your whole body structure!

Where-abouts is the pain? Is it exactly in the hip at the side or more round the back? Also is it worse or better with exercise? I had terrible pain in my back/hip which was worst in the morning. I could hardly get downstairs but it improved somewhat through the day- after several painful trips to a good osteopath and changing my mattress all is now much better. Apparently I had sacroiliacal joint disfunction. A trip to an osteopath might help. Good luck.

Sounds a bit like what I have. They told me that the socket of the joint is too flat, which is why the "ball end" of the thigh bone tends to move about too much - I can sometimes feel it slipping sideways! And all that extra friction brings on inflammation, which causes the pain. Eventually a new joint might be in order... A lot can be effected by keeping the strength of the muscles up (to take some of the strain of the joints). And by keeping my weight down.

find an old sock. fill with rolled oats and a handfull of sea salt crystals or rocks- not the pre ground stuff, suspend over hot tap so water runs through it.
Then get 4 drops clary sage oil (do not do this if pregnant) stirred into 1/2 mug milk and pour into your bath.
soak until the water begins to lose its temperature, the heat will help so if it feels good, put some more water in.
other than that there's not a lot I can offer. I have CHD so I know what the pain is like.

Here´s an exercise for sciatic pain
- lie on your back with your legs bent and your feet flat on the floor as close to your bum as you can get them comfortably.
- take the affected leg and rest it across the thigh of the other leg, so that your foot is now pointing out to the side and the inner ankle is supported on the other thigh.
- place hands behind the non-affected thigh and as you exhale bring the foot of the floor and bring the thigh towards you. You should feel a stretch in the affected leg, don´t overdo it, but don´t underdo it either it should "hurt good" as they say.
- stay in that position for three breaths, with each exhalation try to let go into the stretch a little more, don´t force it just let go into the sensation.
I hope that helps, it was really helpful to me when I had a yoga injury.

Here's a remidie i always use
large whiskey, hot bath, as hot as you can safley stand it and relax then another large whiskey and lay on your bed with a warm water bottle on affected area one more large whiskey or 2
the fall into a restfull sleep and wake up relaxed and hopfully the pain has eased

I had a similar problem while pregnant and found sitting on a gym ball helped loads. Something about opening the hips and relaxing back... physio recomended it and chiropractor 2nded it!! worth a try?
