Shampoo soap

Post: # 85447Post Peggy Sue »

A while back a did a trade with the Fee Fairy - she sent me some shampoo soap, which I loved. I've looked every where in soap recipe sites but can only find one shampoo recipe which is obviously nothing like it- anyone got shampoo recipes? Or even better if Fee is reading please tell me your secret bar reciepe!!

Thanks guys, getting keen on this soap making game, must be the rubber gloves and gorgeous goggles!

That sounds like a much more simple recipe than the one i did!!

My one came from melinda Coss's Handmade soap - its a book. The original recipe was for Lemon and Egg soap, but i didn't have enough lemon oil, so i used sweet Orange and Lemongrass instead.

I made another shampoo a few months ago - not tried it yet though, but the recipe is:

5oz (136g) Coconut Oil
5oz (136g) Hemp Oil
6oz (162g) Olive Oil
6oz (162g) Water (i used mineral water - don't have access to a good spring around here)
2.3oz (62g) Lye
0.7oz Fragrance/Essential Oil. I did mine as follows:

0.7oz = 19g
20drops EO = 1g

40 drops Tea Tree
40 drops Lemongrass
120 drops Rosemary
120 drops Peppermint

AT TRACE:
10g Tea Tree Powder
5g Lemongrass Bits

Make in usual CP manner.
makes just under a tall pringles tub's worth. You can guess what i used as my mould for this one...

At the moment, its a deep brown colour and it smells herby and nice. I'm hoping it will end up being a greeny colour, because of the hemp oil and the green tea powder. Fingers crossed!

It ended up looking like this:

BTW - its not mouldy even though it looks it - its soda ash, a natural byproduct of the raw soap reacting with the air!

Its definitely a shampoo for dark hair because of the greent tea, and the rosemary. But, i still haven't got round the trying it (i keep trying to use up all the other stuff first!!).

Good luck, and please post pictures so that i can see how yours turns out if you try it too!

I added rosemay oil to the first batch, Fee and while the blokes liked it, the women didn't care for it much. (insert shrugging smiley!)

I have a soap shampoo recipe. I have not tried it, but keep planning to.

2 cups tallow
1 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup lye
1¼ cup cold soft water or herbal tea
1¼ cup lukewarm water
½ cup vegetable oil
Up to ¼ cup baking soda (optional for oily hair)
2 tsp lemon oil

Prepare the tallow, vegetable oil, lye, and cold water as though making bar soap, following general soap making directions. When soap mixture has thickened, add the lukewarm water and the second portion of oil, baking soda (dissolved in as little boiling water as possible and allowed to cool), and lemon oil. Store in a glass jar. Yields about 1 ½ quarts

Yes it is animal fat... beef I think. You can buy and use lard instead.

OOoh, now i love the scent of rosemary! And i have dark hair, so its win-win for me! But, this one was based on a soap for dreadlocks, i just made it a bit kinder, so it actually smells minty and fresh and herby, which is pleasant!
