Favorite waste of time
Ok, nothing to do with the normal things that we talk about on here. I have recently started using Dave's PC rather than my Mac and have found myself getting hooked on Spider solitaire. Far too much time is being wasted on it. Am I the only one? What do you end up wasting your time on?

I spend far too much time on these things too. I got 'Solitaires For Free' a while ago (there seems only to be a pay-for version of it available now), which has 30 odd different games on it (the full version has several hundred).
I also listen to internet radio quite a lot - The Album Zone is a pretty good one, and happens to be where I first heard about this site when one of the presenters mentioned it. Something similar is Pandora, an application that streams music to your browser, and 'learns' what sort of stuff you like.
I also spend far too much time reading one or two forums. Weird, eh?

Yep, Andy, spider solitaire is a big time waster for me, I have to avoid even opening it, but I have nothing on Linda - tetris! Absolutely fatal!

Is that a male thing? Computer games just leave me cold...
Yes, I can easily spend a few hours on the net, reading forums. But most of my time gets "wasted" reading books. Reading, of course, is supposed to be very educational, but I read so many crime/detective stories, I can only see that as pure escapism. On the other hand, I am now reading the second series of crime novels set in the old Rome - I'm sure I've already learnt more about ancient history from them than I ever learnt at school!

Yeah, PC games are a blokie thing Ina, I am sure of that!
I could be wrong but I have a teenager that I have to ration PC game to. Otherwise, he'd be a total games freak.
I love to cook in my spare time, sounds like a sad thing to do, but I really enjoy doing it. I should be the size of a house the amount of eating I do.
I also spend a bit of time of this here PC, diddling around looking at information etc.

Tried to post this morning with a link to my latest silly game I'm addicted to.

What is Spider solitaire? The only one I know is the one that comes from Microsoft.
And as for Tetris, I used to be the Tetris queen at work. That was the original tetris but I then moved onto the 3d version - great. Haven't played in years though.
I am good at things which involve using the keyboard quickly, less good with the mouse. I guess it's because I can touch type.

Clever, innit?
You'll find you have to register after a while, for which they need a US zipcode; you may need to google to find a real one (something to do with their performing rights licence). A spoof email addy works OK if you don't want to risk a real one. So far the free version doesn't carry any adverts.

I think that is how wulf came here too, I still find it pretty flattering when the media mention us. Do you remeber the presenters name by any chance. I always like to thank these people.Muddypause wrote:I also listen to internet radio quite a lot - The Album Zone is a pretty good one, and happens to be where I first heard about this site when one of the presenters mentioned it.

I tend to flit between forums... this one of course and the iVillage going green forum that I'm a community leader for.
Recently though, I've been introduced to Qwyzzle... it's a definite challenge, requiring lots of lateral thinking - 100 different levels to get through and no prize, only kudos at the end of it
http://home.planet.nl/~Qwyzzle/Qwyzzle100.html - I've been doing it for three days now and have got to level 69 - be warned... it takes over your day
