Hi, just moved to the North-west tip of Scotland. Not very self-sufficient yet, but working on it. I think up here it'll be necessary (as well as desirable) - nearest supermarket is 70 miles away!!! Also hoping to get lots of advice about wind power - we've got lots of that - over 120mph yesterday . Hello Green Aura, and welcome to the Ishers! I think you are lucky, not having a supermarket nearby... But others might think differently! 
And I do hope you have a greenhouse or polytunnel for your tomatoes. Last year, mine didn't even grow in the tunnel... Too much wind (old tunnel, not windproof), and not enough sun.

Thanks for the welcome messages - I'm hoping to get to know y'all better over the coming months. Will be busy running new business (won't promote it here as per rules, but google green aura and you might just find me!).
A polytunnel is certainly on the cards but first we have to clear the jungle we lovingly call the garden Currently digging up a row of pine trees to lay a hedge of lots of edible (and otherwise useful) goodies - hazel, sloes etc. Will keep a couple of the trees (for pine needle tea - vit C - and because there are so few trees round here). The rest are being moved to a currently unused communal area to give us a bit of woodland.
I got some raised beds off Ebay - absolute bargain - and am hoping to get cracking with the veg in the spring.
Got to go digging now, while the weather is still glorious. Apparently there's a Gallic word for "little spring" and that's what we're enjoying now.
