putting in a vege garden under a rabbit hutch?!

Hi everyone, this is my first post other than to say hello!.

My friend and i are about to have our 1st go at growing veges this yr in her backyard. At the moment the plan is to use an area of ground where her rabbit hutch currently stands. the rabbit will be moved along!!.

as we are novices at this, what is your view on using this ground the rabbit has been stomping(and pooping) on?

i'd appreciate any thoughts and will answer any questions the best i can.

nice and fertile I would have thought. I wouldn't hesitate... the rabbits poop in the fields after all...

just make sure your rabbits can't get to it... or you will have nothing for yourselves.

I've built my rabbit hutches with an area under them to catch their by-product. I've read that you can apply rabbit poo directly to vege patches and it is great fertiliser. The idea is to put some straw down, let the droppings fall in the straw and then periodically move the straw directly to the vege patch.

The possibility exists if the area has been compacted by the rabbits, but a bit of forking to allow water/air entry to the soil would fix that easily enough. Without enough oxygen you could get anaerobic breakdown and acidification of the soil, thus unhappy veggies.
