hello from New Zealand

Post: # 81002Post Sandra17 »

I'm Sandra and I live on the wet West Coast of the South Island, NZ with my husband and two small children. I'm enthusiastically trying out Linda Woodrow's permaculture home garden ideas and aiming to grow most of our veges and eventually fruits as well. I'm now entering year two of our project and have collected various hand me down materials to build a chicken coop as chooks is my next project.

Rainfall is high where we live and the standard NZ gardening books often don't apply.

In the kitchen I try and make foods from scratch. I'm not consistently 'good' though and continue to be grateful for the existence of cans of baked beans so I can potter in the garden and forget about dinner and still not get visited by social welfare.

Look forward to getting to know people here. We lived in the UK 2001-2005 and loved our time there.
Sandra

Hi Sandra, welcome to the Ishers!

We know all about high rainfall here - especially after last year....

Thank you for all of your kind welcomes.

Mrmushypeas, 'TNN' is an abbreviation of 'The Nappy Network', a NZ website and forum devoted to supporting the use of cloth nappies for babies. Lots of parents on there also have strong interests in self-sufficiency. MsWildflower, what is your TNN name?

Another NZ website called www.lifestyleblock.co.nz recently had mention of the selfsufficientish website and forum which may be why you have an outbreak of kiwis joining up!

By the way, I really like the name 'selfsufficientish'.

Hi and welcome, Sandra.

I'd love to hear how you get on with Linda Woodrow's ideas, they always seem great when I'm reading them, but haven't quite worked for me in practice. Totally different climat here to hers and yours though, East coast of the South Island.

Kieransmum. After one to many bashings I don't actively contribute anymore but still read regularly. Some habits are very hard to break!
