2007 Retrosepctive

Post: # 79972Post Milims »

I woke up this morning feeling really rather blue at the prospect of another year like last year. It didn't start well - Chris became so ill he's had to give up work and is now registered disabled - and then became proressively worse - I've had to give up on my dream career and go back to the office  - and it ended with a massive fall out with my parents because they've accused us of being bad parents and engineered a visit from social services to try and prove it! (Nice! ) (BTW they are the ones with egg on their faces not us!)
BUT......then, one of the cats jumped onto the bed for a fuss, as I came down stairs I was greeted by the raucus meow of the deaf and daft old baggage of a cat, we acquired from freecycle, who has blossomed from being a sleeping ball of fluff into a demented moggy who gives us much joy, the coffee Chris had prepared for me was perfect, my sleepy daughter arrived downstairs climbed onto my knee and gave me a big hug, Chris has trimmed his beard so it doesn't spike when he kisses me, had champagne for breakfast :drunken: and thought "s*d it - when life throws sh*t at you - grow rhubarb"
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

We grew a fair bit of rhubarb... and then it died. Hmmm wonder if that's a sign.

Really sorry to hear about Chris being so ill - and also sad to hear about the accusations. Stay strong and hopefully you can stop growing the rhubarb and start to enjoy eating it instead

Here's to 2008.

sorry you had such a difficult year - hope the next one is better...
I firmly believe that luck is only the ability to see the good in a situation, as you have done this morning - take it as a good omen for the coming year !

My rhubarb died as well...so i grew runner beans and sweet peas!

We were ok for most of the year - the manure built up from August onwards.

I think the pile's set to grow for a while, but when it all dies down, we'll have blank canvases here to to as we wish with! Fingers crossed that's soon...

I need to grow some rhubarb this year then. can't stand the taste of the stuff, but I feel life will be throwing sh*t at me.
We have an arraignment to go to on 10th jan because James failed to appear in court... 2 YEARS AGO. we never knew anything about the court date due to moving flat, but if the court had wanted to find him they could haev because our car etc has always been registered at our addrresses no matter where we have lived...
Basically, in may 2005 he was caught speeding. the officer also put him down for dangerous driving. He claims James nearly hit a motorcyclist. yes, he did but that's cos the motorcyclist was in the wrong lane, indicating that he was going to do something other than what he did do... anyway, just before xmas James had just gone out to see his dad when there was a knock at our door. It was a warrant officer. Aparently James has been on the run from the law for 2.5 years. yeah, my "wouldn't hurt a fly or put a step wrong" husband was on the lamb. anyway, i got him home, she arrested him and bailed him in a matter of minutes on our sofa over a nice cuppa   makes me laugh to think about it. sort of.

so, yeah. we are facing massive legal bills, James faces a possible ban/ban and fine/fine and points. If he gets banned he can thankfully get to work ok because we are now walkingdistance from a station; and I have thought through every outcome and think we will be fine whatever happens... but it's not fun to start the year facing this.

I blame Beresfords of Billericay for not forwarding our mail like they said they would when we moved from their flat to another IN THE SAME BLOCK 2 years ago.

grrr.
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

I am sorry to hear that Milims, I am sure 2008 will bring us all much more happiness and luck than 2007 did.

I too had a rough year.
The cottage (which was far from perfect to start with) had severe dry-rot, we spent the whole summer overseeing shitty builders and spent most of autumn arguing with them, that they hadn't finished the job.
There was a big stupid, childish falling-out in my family, which I tried not to meddle in - as taking sides in these matters is never smart.
We found more dry-rot in the back of the house 2 days before Christmas.

But...
I did have some lovely times watching my daughter grow up from a baby to a toddler.
I moved to the country, to live a life that we had only dreamed of before, our future is full of endless possibilities.
I made new friends (both here and in the 'real' world)
JohnM got a promotion
My Mum moved to her dream house - 50 miles away (and away from the house that she bought 2 miles away, and only lived in for 3 months.... it's complicated)

You win some, you loose some.

Did anyone actually have a good 2007?

I wish everyone a happy and healthy 2008...

Keep smiling.

I had a rough 2007. Mom and Dad got frightened off the mobile home site where they lived along with other neighbours, by the new landlord, who we assume wanted to develope the place. Although the law protects them you cant reassure people when the home next door goes up in flames especially when most of the residents are in their 70s.

Anyway the landowner is in the nick now until his court case comes up in the summer......I hope he gets 10 yrs :angry4:

Here's a big wish for good things in 2008 for everyone, especially those who had a rough 2007.

The company I was working for closed down and I was the one who had to do it. It was really stressful and very hard work but the experience was excellent and led to my getting my current job, which I love. I've also made some great friends from both companies. So the stress and hard work was worth it.

Cheers
Zoe
