Does anyone else remember that you used to be able to post a normal first class letter before mid-day and it would arrive at first post the next day

Does anyone remember first post  (our posty comes at 11am)

Does anyone else remember being able to buy a book of stamps for a few pounds and they would do for any letter (I think it was under 50g or something)... now you have to carry weights and a ruler with you so you know that a stamp is the right one... and the books cost about £5

oh dear... I am ranting again

I remember being able to use regular first class stamps to send letters to Europe.

The post office (and the transport system) should never have been privatised, the infrastructure of the country is held to randsom by a bunch of fat cats....grrr.

I can guarantee that a second class letter will take 5 days from my friend in Hampshire...2 days if I sent her one.

Postie told me to tell the poster to complain, especially as they paid nearly £12 for postage!

A few years back, I applied (during a stretch of unemployment) for a Christmas job with the local post office.

I received an invitation for an interview. The letter had taken about 8 weeks, for a distance of roughly 5 miles... Needless to say, it had come way too late. I replied with rather a sarcastic letter, apologising for not turning up for the interview, and asking if it takes 8 weeks for 5 miles (which I could have easily walked in a couple of hours), how long would a reply take from some places down south, where I'd also applied for jobs? Would I still receive them before retirement age? They didn't see the joke. Told me they'd have to know exactly where the letter had been sent from (well, they sent it, so they should know). Argh!
