INISHINDIE- Inishowen calling

Post: # 77974Post inishindie »

Hi Everyone.

A friend recommended that I checked out this site. What a treat it is too!!

I am living in Inishowen, County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. I have been growing plants and veggies and for a few years and dabbled on the fringes of self-sufficiency, growing most of our own vegetables, re-using lots of stuff and burning salvaged wood. I must stress here it was just dabbling!!

I try not to be in people’s faces too much with environmental issues. (They don’t cross the road to avoid my ramblings too often now!!)

I write for a local newspaper called the Inish Times about gardening and environmental issues and am in the process of putting a lot of the articles and thoughts onto a rather untidy blogsite

http://inishindie.blogspot.com/

I’ll catch you all later

Cheers

Ian

Hi AliB

It's like the first day at school....so exciting!!!!

I like your blog too...my family are knitting me a scarf for Christmas.. We have a shop closing down in Clonmany that has been selling wool for 60 years. So it's cheap wool all around! They are knitting it so thickly that it wont fold in two to put around my neck .I don't like to say anything in case it might stitch them up and they get a bit cross, but it's a pearl of a gift!! (ugh)

Cheers

Ian

Ha ha

Yup, it is addictive isn't it

I have a kitchen to tidy and dinner to make, but I'll just see if there is anything else that looks interesting

Oh... just remembered I have some gingerbread in the kitchen too, maybe I deserve a cup of tea and a wee sit down... it's been a long day    - I have been sitting knitting all day (while E pulls my ball of wool to bits and tryis to tie knots in it)

NEW GARDENING ARTICLE

Post: # 80976Post inishindie »

Hi

I hope you don't mind me putting in a bit of a plug here!

I am starting a new gardening column in our local paper

NEW GARDENING COLUMN FOR THE INISHOWEN INDEPENDENT

A new weekly organic gardening column called Gardening Matters has started in the Inishowen Independent, out every Tuesday. Local gardener Ian Gomersall will be recruiting local experts to give advice on your prized patch. You can also access the articles on the Inishindie blog site http://inishindie.blogspot.com You will also find the Forum page for any questions or answers that you might have. We look forward to seeing you there. http://inishindie.blogspot.com

If you have any ideas for the article I would love to hear about them!

Cheers

Ian

Great news about the new book

Post: # 94196Post inishindie »

Fantastic news about the new "Bible" I have only seen the front cover but I am sure it will be full of handy tips and advice.

I can appreciate how time consuming writing a book can be for Andy and Dave. I started a small website a few months ago and it has turned into a full time job! All of my other work on the blog sites has slowed to a tricke as I put my energies into the new site. These things take on a life of thier own after a while! you can check it out on www.gardening.ie (your feedback would be much appreciated) For example I wrote a piece on wildlife gardening recently and have just received an e-mail telling me there were loads of innacuracies! I will take the comments on board and re-write the piece.

Congratualtions again to all!

Ian
