Hello from Percy

Post: # 77604Post Percy »

Hi everyone. Signed up a few weeks ago but this is the first chance i've had to introduce myself. Found the site while searching for an alternative site with similar interests to myself. Found one other which will remain nameless but didn't really fit in with my thinking or opinions, mainly due to my reasons for trying to be more self sufficient or even frugal if you like. Those reasons being that a few years ago got myself into some finacial problems trying to keep up with Jones' and now it's all catching up. Still my problem. The upside is however it has made me more aware about the environment. We are experimenting at home mainly with the electric at the moment. One example is we changed all the light bulbs and experimented with our electric kettle. We only put in enough for the amount of cups we need and turn it off as it just comes near the boil. We also turn off all switches at night. This has saved us for the same period last year £20. So not only is there an energy saving issue but finacial as well. When speaking to friends about this they tend to be interested in the finacial savings more than the saving of energy. However if this gets them looking at saving energy does it really matter what their motives are?
Sorry I'm getting boring now.
My location is East Kent. Married with two boy's, and a dog. My two passions are my allotment and Rugby. My eldest son has joined the School Eco team. A lot of the experiments we carry out together have really come from his involvement in this group.
Think I had better stop there for the time being. Hope I can be helpful in the future with any advice and I'm sure I'm going to pick up some good tips/ideas from the site.

Welcome, Percy!

I'm new too and there is soooo much info here it's scary! And your reasons for economising aren't boring at all; they're why I started too, many years ago.

And like you say, who cares why people become eco-friendly, so long as they do?

You are so right... With some people I don't even try to persuade them of the environmental benefits - if they think they are doing themselves a favour by saving money, so be it! And don't worry about being boring - we'll bore you back!

Anyway - welcome to the Ishers.
