Although having said about being glad i'm not in Folkestone......After having visited our council this afternoon,it seems that there are NO empty plots here   the woman who i was directed to speak to,knew nothing else about the allotments apart from this, not even if there was a waiting list and she couldn't get the person who would know, on the phone,so i was sent away with an e-mail addy to write to.....some service, hey?..........but i've fired off an e-mail to the allotments people and i'm hoping that this woman was wrong and just b/s ing me as it was friday afternoon and she couldn't be bothered.

We can finally get going on ours this weekend after the birds have gone. I will post more pics once a bit is cleared.

Keep trying and be persistant, if you get an email address of someone who deals with local plots make sure they know you are still waiting. Nothing wrong with being keen.

Would be good to hear for anyone else who is having trouble getting one and anybody who has reached the front of the queue, a thread to newbies of allotmentering.

I think the weather is going to be good this weekend and I have a day off work on monday so hope to have more news & pics on Monday night.

well we were pretty lucky today, a chap in the next road is looking for someone to take over his garden and let the allotment people know, then we were the first people to be informed of this and we're meeting up with him this week for a bit of a discussion but basically he'll lend us the land for free, he just doesnt do anything with it and doesnt want it to go towaste.and he'll throw in a shed and any power we need for free too, so hopefully we'll be up and running soon!

it does pay to be persistant, and we also volunteered ourselves to help with anybody who didnt have time to do their plot or if they wanted to downsize a bit. but one thing that set us back was that we didnt realise that the council didnt control all the plots in our area - there are some privately owned ones too so if you see any allotments, make sure you go and chat to the people there and see if theres a separate list.

Cool Emma that is great news!

Here are a few pics from today post a bit of hard work.

Very tired now today. I am off work tomorrow so I can do a bit more. I have a friend to help have a go at the trees in the middle of the plot.

We found potatoes and jerusalem artichokes so we are having them with our roast this evening.

I have some seed onions to plant (we went half on 300 with the couple in the next plot). She also gave us all the tools the man who left the plot gave them, she knew we were starting and thought she would grab them for us in case he gave them to somebody else. How nice is that!!

PS Kids are very quiet tonight.

Will post some more as we do more.

we got our plot!!! we went round to the man who was offering a patchof his garden, got on really well with him and its our for the taking! so we start planning and clearing this week. as it goes theres barely anything to clear but he has loads of bits of 'junk' laying about which he says we can use for whatever - you know bits of wood, panes of glass etc.

im ever so excited! even more so as hubby has said that i can be the designer and he'll do all the hard work! (well, we'll see how long that lasts...)

but i'll post some pics when i find the cable to my digital camera

Hi all

Looking forward to another weekend on our plot. Just found out this week there are a few free plots now on the site, not sure I am ready to take another on just yet.

I must get my supports for our fruit bushes this weekend, I may have over engineered slightly (a common problem when I make something) but I will post a couple of pictures when finished. We had a mammoth bonfire last weekend so the plot is now 3/4 clear and more digging is needed to remove the bindweed as best as we can.

We did a couple of manure trips last weekend too so should get good results next year if last was anything to go by. I need some more so will try to do that while the weather is mild so the worms can do their stuff over the winter.

Can’t spend enough time there at the moment, its good in some way because things are getting done and I am still enthusiastic where as if I do more it might not be as enjoyable.

hows your plot been faring with the recent weather? ours is on the bottom of a slope so we've been absolutely soaked, as well as it already being typical folkestone clay, its even stickier than ever. managed to get out massive brambles with the use of a pickaxe though, as we broke two forks and a spade on them previously!

Hi Emma not too bad to be honest. It is on a slope and the water drains to one corner near the composter. On yours you may find that if you build it up a bit and go heavy with manure it may be a good spot for marrows ans pumpkins! :happy7:

Its a rotten time of year when it rains heavy, keep going would love to see some photos.

New Year

Weather has been fantastic over the last couple of weekends. Dug half the plot, spuds are at home chitting, and have prepared the seed order.

Moved some raspberries and built supports.

Will take more pictures soon.

Still waiting for mine  Been on the list 18 months....saw the ones in Rutherglen recently on a walk-past, some of them don't look as though they've been used for years... :( :( :(
See, I'd make mine all nice and full of interesting things. Come on South Lanarkshire Council, move yer bleedin' bums!

(When I applied, the chap at the council called me back to check I'd put my age down right - he thought 33 was a typo, told me 'I'd have to wait until somebody died of old age!')
I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.
