New coop

Post: # 73510Post DrSlippers »

I've built a new coop.
It's the first time that I've attempted DIY on this scale and I'm quite pleased with it. I'm so proud of myself in fact, that I felt moved to show you some photos of my creation and would welcome any comments.
The coop has a 4'x 4' floor and is 6' high at the front. I'm installing a couple of new young hens next week and hopefully my hen & cockrel (Eric & Sparticus) will move in with them in time.

I shall fit the nestboxes as required.

The coop fits quite nicely I think.

I used new timber and weather proof ply which cost me about £200.
I hope to recoup (no pun intended) some of my costs by selling hatching eggs on ebay etc.
Inch by inch, row by row, I'm gonna make my garden grow.
All I need is a rake and a hoe and a little fertile land..

I'm Sparticus

Thanks for your kind comments.

In answer to your query Deb, Eric is the hen, I'm not sure what breed she is but she has a fine beard which gives her a very masculine look, hence the name.
Sparticus is a little pekin rooster hatched by Eric from ebay eggs this spring.
Image
He realy loves his surrogate mum and is constantly bonking her.
For this reason I intend to introduce a couple of pekin hens as more suitable brides for him.
I woudn't be surprised though if he succesfully mates with Eric, despite the difference in size; she's doing her best to help him reach!
Inch by inch, row by row, I'm gonna make my garden grow.
All I need is a rake and a hoe and a little fertile land..
