101 ways to get rid of flies (organically)

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

we have a gordy fly trap, you fit it to the top of a bucket and chuck a dead rabbit in it, cover with water, the flies are attracted to the smell of the dead rabbit, fly in, then can't fly out, then the smell of their dead bodies, attract more flies, etc. however you need a big garden as you need to place it far enough a way so that you can't smell it.

to improove on possums idea:

- get bucket - recycled plastic paint bucket is fine.
- 3/4 fill with water and add dead fish/roadkill/old meat
- drill 3-4 holes about inches from the top
- cover top with CLEAR plastic firmly - no slack

will result in not much smell and a bucket of dead flys - keep trying to get out via the top - are attracted by the light once inside. heat/water/gas kills 'em real good.

one in each of our paddocks = no flystrike
