OOh in June when I was waiting for our new allotment to become available I started loads of stuff in pots- even carrots in little newspaper pots to plant out- ate some of those this weekend! All curly but fun
Why not get some fruit cuttings going, I'm doing that with my blackcurrent now. I have one bush at home and want more down the 'lotty' so I've started some cuttings in water and have a few little roots.
I didn't know you could do corriander this time of year....is that may be just in France? I'm in a pretty warm spot in the SE of England- maybe worth a go
Coriander is really tough and hardy - the trick is to sow it just at the right time when there is still enough warmth left for it to start growing but not enough for it to run to seed - then you will have a crop all winter. It survived here with minus 8C no probs!
aah that would explain why previous years I had a great crop but this year it just ran to seed immeiately twice this summer. I saved the seeds so I'll try them out now! Thankyou
Some late pea's for early spring, broad beans, garlic, japanise onion sets, broccolli , so long as you get it in now/greenhouse or cold frame.
Winter salad crops (lambs lettice, rockett, pakchoi, japanise winter greens), even fennel if you start it soon. Other crops like Cima di Rapa which is like a mustardy broccoli, has a 40 day growth (real seeds or seeds of Italy), spring cabbage, also there is a new variety of vcarrot I'm trying I sowed it a couple of weeks ago but it's good through out September it's Nantes Frubund from T&M, it's the latest sowing carrot and is winter hardy giving very early spring carrots. Mine are already up, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they do.
It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli
