I am having a bit of a panic with my courgettes, I sowed what I thought was 3 courgette plants and 15 cucumbers ( to be on the safe side  ) now that they have both started to bear fruit .... Houston we have a problem .... 15 courgette plants romping away and only one cucmber plant I am afraid every time I go to the plot  so far the fruits are only small but the devil in me threw a few handfuls of chicken manure about the place on Monday so they have probably taken over the whole site by now :pale:

That's ok..i'm just seething with jealousy!
I planted 12 butternut squash - not seen a single one, 12 courgettes, not seen a single one, 12 pumpkins...there's a pattern forming... and 12 cucumbers - the slugs got them before they even had a fighting chance!

Maybe next year...maybe next year

Or, i'll just add squash to the things that i'm useless at growing.

We are just starting to harvest our cucumbers which is incredibly late. I couldn't imagine summer without them.

As for the sweetcorn though, the 2nd batch got picked (all 4 small cobs) but they weren't ripe even though the black hairy bits had dropped off. So no sweetcorn for us this year - and it isn't available in the shops here either. :( :(

I picked my first cucumber a couple of days ago too. squash are hopeless.. they are jsut setting now.. fat lot of use I reckon - pumpkin - no fruit (still i have 2 drawers in the freezer from last year's monster so many just as well)

sweetcorn - first batch of 35 - only about an inch of set kernels... uselss, second batch of 3o ish looking lots better.. but not ready yet.. hoping for continued hot weather (very hot here today)

Fee - did you sow the seeds direct or in pots first?

we've got a freezer full of courgettes, shelves of pumpkins, butternuts, marrows, and jars of pasteurised ratatouille and tomatoes.

its been a very good year for us - we've bought practically no veg through the whole summer! and i've started sourcing new varieties of seeds for next year, and even have two beds prepared and mulched with much and straw for some winter greens planting as soon as the weather cools a bit.

Only gre a few courgettes at home that are long gone now- but since getting the allotment in June we planted spinach and I've eatten raw spinach, cooked spinach, spinach and fish pie, spinach lasagne, curried spinach, stir fried spinach, spinach risotto - given it to my friends, family, neighbours, people I don't know, anyone passing the allotment.

Funnily enough I gave some to the guy on the allotment next door who swapped it for...courgettes!!

I love this life, but I am a bit tierd of spinach now.
