putting up a wind turbine

was just lookin' through me piccies and came across these, they are exactly 2 years old. thought they might be of interest, it's a proven 2.5kw on 6.5m self supporting tower. i used the winch on my landrover but a 'tirfor' is usual practice.putting the head on assembling the blades, cover and lifting is easily done by 2 men in 3 hours.



this is the head on prior to fitting the cover and blades.



this is pulling it upright using the winch and a gin pole.




this is my mate willie ensuring none of the heavy cables get trapped.



and this is the dude (young CT) underneath a couple of hours later.

that's it been up for 2 years now and performed beyond our wildest dreams surviving several gusts in excess of 70mph and producing full power at the same time, unlike most other designs that turn out of the wind or brake

here's a piccy of my trusty 'rutland910' which provided me with low voltage lighting a CD/radio, smallTV, and VHF radio (before we had a phone) for almost 18 years having said that in it's lifetime it was overhauled many times and the parts became obslete years ago. i was lucky in that i was given a pile of scrap ones from a fish farm. sadly it died earlier this year and my store has been exhausted though i have been promised another the mast despite being over 11m is not in a good spot but i was kinda restricted by the cable run as it's 12v but then you live and learn after about 5 years i finally discovered that car batteries are not suitable for storing power so moved to deep cycle, leisure ones which lasted much longer, around 4 years. i thought my dreams had come true when i was given a huge bank of ni cads but these turned out to be pretty useless for flourecsent lights as the cells are slightly lower voltage than lead acid, they also seem to need a higher voltage to charge up
