hello all....

stumbled across this site whilst looking for sloe gin recepies......that was a few hours back + i figured i'd better say hi 'cos i'm never gonna get thru all these threads tonight!!

my name's andy (or bludge) & i work in the care sector. i recently finished a 2yr p/t national certificate in horticulture at pershore college (no time to do the homework the bigger courses required!) i do a few gardening jobs & have a large garden at home.

my other interest is sidecar racing which i have competed in for15yrs.

looking forward to reading more on the site, learning lots & sharing ideas!

It'll be us asking you for advice then.

From what I've seen of it, you must be utterly mad. Formula 1 cars, but with only 3 wheels, and a passenger who's always trying to get off.
looking forward to reading more on the site, learning lots & sharing ideas!
Welcome along.

Hello and welcome to Self Suffish.

Side car racing eh? I was asked to do it once (a loooooooong time ago) I guess mainly because I was short/small! I used to ride bikes for sometime but I declined the offer and whimped out.
If in doubt ~ use a hammer!

Maybe he's the one in the sidecar?

Welcome to the madhouse, Andy! I prefer two wheelers, but at the moment I only get the chance to ride a quad bike once in a while. For work, I hasten to add.

dear all...........! i havn't worked out how to multi quote so i wont

I am indeed the passenger of the sidecar having started with my dad in 1990 when he took it up again following a sucessful short spell in the 60's. i'v not really considered the driving role. isle of man tt races favourite to race but most dangerous! having had various accidents, my back is in poor condition which clashes with gardening but still....!

there are always opportunities to get on the side shiney.....various track days etc

love sydney nev. i have a mate who runs/co-owns(or something!) bondi fm radio station. i love the coastal walk from bondi to..........trying to remember names......coogi?!

defo' not aussie millymollymandy but have been twice & love the place!

and if my brains can be picked then great but i think it'll be me whose doing the picking!

quad bikes & two wheeled motorbikes are far more dangerous than sidecars ina......3 wheels work well!

thanks for the welcome everyone 8) 8) 8)

Mmhh, the first time I was on a 3 wheeler (trike on an Aussie farm), I kept going round in circles - I hand't quite grasped the concept of steering a vehicle with three wheels, being used to two! Just envisage that: My boss in the centre of a circle, me going round him like in a circus, and all that with a dead calf on the back...

After I'd done about 5 rounds, the boss was getting suspicious and thinking that maybe I didn't do that just for fun? Needed somebody to explain the physics behind it to me; once my head had understood it, the body followed like a lamb.

Anyway, I thought they'd introduced quads because they were safer than trikes? Sidecars are different, of course. And there was a really nasty (fatal) quadbike accident near here recently. There's a hill road half a mile away that's popular with bikers (and ambulance drivers... :? ), and a quad (not a farm type) and a "normal" bike were racing each other. Idiots, I say.

Won't happen to you, I'm sure. You are a responsible passenger, of course. (We all hope that, so you can stay with the forum for a while  )

Ina[/quote]

i try to be a responsible passenger but the majority of drivers would say there's no such thing! i'm responsible in that i only race with blokes who i trust.....especially at the isle of man tt races and also only with people who want me for my passengering abilities & not any cash i may bring in 'cos i aint got any!!
my first experience on a 3 wheeler was similar......trying to get my head around having to excellerate round a left hand corner or the sidecar wheel would lift up took me ages........thats why i took up passengering & not driving

nev, like most travellers, i spent most of my time in nsw over on the east but i did enjoy a day out towards the mountains but left feeling there was sooo much more to see. i'm sure it's gonna be a case of when i return rather than if ever! i was young and free then so when i do return, i'd like to think it'll be with my wife & daughters to show them what a great country you live in. i look forward to the day that england follow australias lead and chill glasses/scooners etc in fridges before serving up beer    perhaps we could meet up for that drink then

What - there are actually people who pay for that experience?

Not me, mate... I can get my thrills cheaper. Mind you, I've never been in a sidecar, so I shouldn't talk. Maybe I'd love it.

And warm beer in ice cold glasses? :pukeleft:

G'day Blurge

Catching up on my hello's here as I have been off line for a bit, more emoticons can be got on the left of the message box when you are typing. see at the bottom there is a bit that says view more emoticons, click on that, they might take a little time to load depending on your connection speed.

Good to have you on board
