jam and jelly inventory

decided to see how the stocks were going..should i make some apple jam with the apples windfalls i was given etc...

I have 30 -
30 jars of jam and jelly...
strawberry, apple jelly, pear and ginger, blackberry jelly, mixed fruit jam, quince jam, quince jelly, and apple and ginger jelly

I didn't realise we had so much... good thing is that none of it is older than 2006. i always give some of it away to my parents when i make it too (but the sneaks always give me some of theirs when they make some.. thankfully less often)

think.. we should start eating more jam....

Mmmm quince. I planted a quince this spring. Hopefully I'll have a few fruits next year.

In case you're looking for ways to diminish your supply: I used to buy yoghurt with fruit in it but nowadays I just buy plain yoghurt and put in some of my own jam. I love it and it takes care of 'surplus' jam. That being said, I only have 11 small pots of jam in the larder.

I also read somewhere that you can make wine out of it. Now you can make wine out of almost anything, but perhaps someone here can tell whether jam-wine is actually good to taste.

Red that is a lot!!! I have quite a few jars of jam and jelly left and some of it is from 2005 and still OK! Then there is the chutney and the cucumber pickle and cuc relish......

i also have 7 jars of cougette chutney, 2 of sweet curried green tomato chutney (just made it) and 2 of pickled beetroot. we'll eat all of that no trouble though.

i love preserving and storing food..

Erm, i have about 400 jars of Jam and Jelly. Is that excessive? Nothing older than 2006.

you selling it or do you have those diddy jars they give you in hotels etc?

Trying to sell it, but not having much luck at the moment. May have to go and offload it at East Fortune Market soon.

Well i don't have to worry about selling the jam anymore.

But i suppose atleast none of us were in there at the time.

I was about to ask where on earth do you store 300 jars- all over the floor is the answer then

I haven't made jam since I was at school, I have promised myself I will but I really do have to organise the kitchen better if I'm going to preserve, and I will have to do chutney with all the beetroots I have planted!! Then there's the sloe gin to store, the homemade soap etc etc....

Oh sorry to hear that. What a mess. But, yes you were lucky.

When I first moved into my house, I started to clean a glass fronted wall cabinet that was on the wall in the laundry room. I hardly touched it when it fell off the wall and glass went everywhere. I was barefoot at the time and didn't dare move It was lucky that the ex was still there otherwise I would have been on my own. I was really lucky not to be hurt but after that we checked everything that the previous owners had fixed to the wall.

I am so sorry to hear that, hoomin erra... They do pack a bit of weight, don't they? It's such a shame - all that time (and I suppose money) invested. I always think it's worse if you lose something homemade rather than something bought. That can be replaced just with money...

I think what hurt the most, was the 2 year old cherries in brandy in a very ornate whisky bottle.

Yup, didn't lose it all, and luckily most of the empty jars were ok. Time to start foraging and filling
