Ina I've no idea what moomin means either! Trolls were ugly toys resembling cave men when I was a kid.
Ah, I DO read Harry Potter, you know! I'm all clued up about trolls: big, nasty and ugly. And seemingly always male. Which leaves one with all sorts of questions...

Moomintroll was a character appeared in a series of books by the Finnish author Tove Janssen or Jannson. I read them when I was a kid and oddly enough have just bought a new copy of the first "Finn Family Moomintroll". I guess that's why the name was in my mind. They have chaotic adventures in a crazy world. Living in Moomin Valley, they hibernate during winter, like to party and generally seem ok and quite harmless. I think there was a TV series some years ago but I never saw it.
"A Moomintroll is small and shy and fat, and has a Moominpappa and a Moominmamma. Moomins live in the forests of Finland. They like sunshine and sleep right through the winter. The snow falls and falls and falls where they live, until their houses look like great snowballs. But when spring comes, up they jump...."

( I'm not actually fat!)
They are also described on wikipaedia as bohemian, close to nature and tolerant of diversity.
Yes, thanks very much! It always amazes me how SSish contributes to my education... And they sound absolutely brilliant creatures. Seem to have a lot of my own characteristics, actually... Hibernate in winter - yes, please! Quite harmless, close to nature and tolerant of diversity - I think so! Even the fat can't be denied in my case...

Welcome, Moomintroll! I LOVED those books as a child, thanks for the reminder. I have a boxed set I was given when I was about 10 (32 years ago, ACK!), I must remember to get it out and give it to my daughter, who always has her 11-yr-old nose in a book.
I too found the site by accident and was intrigued. having never been on a forum before I am quite addicted to this one I ahve to confess! I am insired everytime I visit to have a go at something or promise myself to put it on the list at least.
Last weekend I ahd a go at making soap (total disaster due to me being an idiot and getting one of the ingredients wrong! but will try again..) and making bread. I used to make it as a kid, now people I know use breadmakers and it makes it sound complex I ahd quite forgotten how easy and rewarding it is (not to mention yummy!)
I found the site by accident and have been reading stuff for a while (all very helpful - thanks) but thought maybe now it's time to get involved properly!
