square foot gardening..........

Post: # 67382Post Berti »

when reading my way through the posts as a noob, it dawned to me that no one seems to know www.squarefootgardening.com
although I have not such a garden for the moment as I moved house, it is real great, less work than an allotment, and a great harvest.....without taking as much space.
check it out!

lOL! I tried it this year, in a raised bed! The peas worked, but the potatoes took over and shaded out everything else!

We are in the process of relocating the raised bed, it will now be used for salad and herbs. With the bulk of the veg beng grown at the lottie.

I do it so does my sister - its great less weeding, heaps of food in a small space. I couldn't imagine doing it any other way now.

It has been discussed in the past although quite some time ago (the search tool may help here).

I don't follow the idea too closely but I do tend to plant in blocks rather than rows and often intermingle different crops for best effect, particularly as I fill in gaps left by harvesting the first fruits.

In my garden I use squarefoot'ish along with permaculture'ish and traditional'ish gardening techniques

By this I mean I use whatever suits that section of garden. squarefoot gardening is great for the kids,it really is on their scale, I would recommend it to anyone with children to give it ago.
