aaaah! same as what happened to us.

Never mind.....I've read that chooks get better at looking after themselves each time they try brooding.
For now, I would suggest turfing her off the nest several times a day (and stopping her from going straight back in) so that she is forced to feed and drink.
Check everywhere thoroughly for redmite...it is the season and they love a sitting bird cos brooding hens don't dustbath!

For what it's worth, Racey Lacey didn't seem at all disappointed and now, three weeks later she's broody again....sitting on an eggless nest

Thanks for the advice everyone. Altho I was giving her food in her nextbox she was laying an extra egg a day to eat and she was covered in egg yolk - yuk! Redmite, will have a check for that. Can I have 2 cockerels in together or will they just fight all the time?

If she was still laying an egg daily was she really broody? I have never known a broody hen to still lay eggs and mine certainly refuse all foor for most of the 3 weeks as they go almost into a coma when broody.
2 cockerels will amost certainly fight all the time.

It was only the last few days that she was laying the extra egg and eating it. Other than that, like u say, she was pretty comatose and sat on the eggs every day for over the 3 weeks.

Shame about the cockerels.
