Firsts.....
Last night we ate the first of my parsnips and the first of my sweetcorn
The parsnips although delicious could have been left for longer but they were so big and beckoning to me so they had to be eaten lol. The corn is a red variety that is sweeter than normal corn and very beautiful. The kernels on one cob where differing shades of yellows and white while the other had a burgundy coloured cob with yellow kernels. It was exceptionally sweet but the kernels werent as juicy as a standard yellow cob.

Thats a good idea for next time. I only had those 2 that were of edible size not sure why they were that much larger than the rest so the others will have a bit of growing to do as yet.

So your sweetcorn was OK then, did it get bigger eventually? I picked mine and all we got that was 'edible' was 5 x half size cobs which had pollinated very badly, with just lumpy kernels here and there with lots of blank bits!
Still I cut them off and they went into a stirfry (with the FIRST courgette
), which was better than nothing I suppose!
Cross fingers the next two sowings will do better.

I would think that corn might be a bit dodgey over there M3

Had some more corn last night, this time a normal yellow variety. So far ive picked 6 cobs and theyve all been fine with no kernels missing and really full to the end too. There are several plants that have some tiny cobs on tho and others that are a little strange looking with odd shapes and things - definite inbreeding lol. The cobs last night, altho delicious, were quite sticky when eating it - is that cos I havent given it long enuf to ripen?
