big green gathering (again) - questions

wheee not long now, so we have been practising putting up a tent with a baby and a four year old.

some questions arose form the dh, as I boiled the kelly kettle -

is there somewhere to buy milk (proper milk for children to drink, not rice milk and a lecture) and bread and stuff (we get thru loads of stuff)

how much stuff is too much stuff to take, as we are getting shipped by camel or some such to the camp site from the jalopy and there are 3 adults and 2 small children so we will have loads of bits and bobs

kindling for the kelly kettle - does anyone now if there is a supply for individuals to use as we know ther eare communal fires, but we will need small kindling

and does anyone have any bright ideas for rigging up solar panels? Dh is contemplating taking a pan stand (one of those things to stand four pans on) and I think I would die of embarrassment (unless anyone thinks this is a good idea then of course I shall claim the credit!)

I'm very excited, but my need to organise is going to make me panic I can tell!

Yes, you can buy bread and milk - its all organic. you can get a bacon sandwhich too...go see the Young farmers!!

If you've got 3 adults and 2 small children, i'm not surprised you'#ve got lots of stuff!! They have horse and carts, and they have men with funny baskety bikes too. They take a lot of stuff!!

Last year, the organisers provided all the wood to be used on any fires (communal or personal). There were loads of little bits as well as fire sized bits, so go a=scavenging on the wood[ile and you'll find enough to keep the kettle going. We've got a kelly kettle too, so we'll meet you at the woodpile looking for small bits too!!

Solar panels...not got a clue!!

I'll PM you with my email address, and then we can arrange meeting up! My sister and i were thinking Ish Picnic with homebrew and homemade bread and stuff. We're going to see what we can transport there...

thanks - we'd love to meet up, we may have to make courgette cake as once more that is the most successful thing this year (strawbs and rasps devoured and toms not yet ripe). I'll be pureeing like a demon for the littlest one, but I'm sure I can puree a lentil burger (if not a bacon sandwich). See you at the woodpile!

even at a civilised festival like the BGG, the main worry with pv panels in a camping situation is carrying the blessed things, and then the possibility of them getting nicked

I'm worrying about keeping mine secure on the roof of a caravan!

plans are afoot for some turbocharging of the shower unit, so it'll still be working even if the weather's for ducks!

(and 200 solar kettles working for a living!)

it's getting closer.............just nearly put my back out hauling hundreds of mini-bars of natural soap in from the carriers van, and the King Tubby cds have arrived and are exercising my speakers...........

We're excited over here too!!!

I've texted my friend about those ticket, but she hasn't replied yet. Would she be able to get them from you if/when she gets there? She's saving up for her wedding at the moment, so she's not sure whether she'll have the cash beforehand.

We're finishing the sign tonight, and rewaterproofing the tent after solstice's downpour!!

Then i've got to bottle some wine, taste the mead (or see which ones of the other bottles i fancy taking...). I'm getting some wellies on Sunday!!

Can't wait!! 7 days to go. This time next week, we'll be onsite putting up the tent and looking for Chai/putting the kettle on etc.

had a word with my partner in crime, he's happy to sell the tickets without the car park and caravan passes, and we can send them guaranteed delivery, so I reckon we'd need to know sometime Friday ( as we're leaving for the BGG on Monday to help get the showers ready)

ps, make sure you use placcy bottles - they are red hot on "no glass", and do enforce it!

no - if you arrive with a caravan, it's searched! I presume they're that hot with everyone else - it is a farm with animals, so it's fair enough!

ps, probably better not to let on that the shower unit has 320 glass tubes, and there'll be some 200 glass solar kettles too..............

you lucky ....'s!

Do any of you ever post pics of all these festival gatherings? If so, please direct the rest of us there - it would be great to see how people party (and chill) the other side of the world!
