Greetings from North Carolina, USA
Hi,
my name is Brian Heagney. I'm a recent graduate of Architecture, now living in Greensboro, NC, USA. I love DIY anything: my wife and I have been making our own soap for over six years now, we just learned how to make our own soya, soymilk and tofu. I'm learning how to make yarn from my cat's hair, and trying to study everything in between.
I'm also interested in hand-built, individually designed dwellings.
I just found this site by searching for what to do with Soy Whey left over from Tofu-making. I'm so glad I found this place, the people seem so nice and intelligent and informative. I look forward to gleaning a lot of information and hopefully returning the favor.

Welcome
You don't shear your cat do you
No seriously what breed do you have to have to make your own yarn?
Enjoy the site, look forward to seeing you around

I'm afraid I am most interested about the cat hair yarn too, I have never heard of anyone doing that before.

Hi, you all are so nice to respond, I figured I'd answer in the forums:
1. No I don't shear Murphy (the cat). He's one of my best friends and luckily he loves being brushed, and I love being able to do that for him.
2. I don't know Keith Holiday, but I used to see him around downtown Greensboro a lot. I'll give him your regards if I ever run into him again. I'm not sure personally if he's a good Mayor, but a lot of people think he's pretty good at what he does. And from everything I do know about him, that sounds about right.
3. I don't know anything about spinning cat hair, I just figured I'd try it. As for breeds, I figure whatever cat has long enough hair to be spun. My cat is an orange domestic. The women in this hand-spinning circle I visited once said that what I was doing wouldn't be possible. I don't believe them, since on my first try, I was getting a fairly thick yet short piece of "yarn" by simply rolling with my thumb and pointer finger.
4. I'll hopefully post when I succeed. Thanks and see you in the forums.

Hi, Brian! I have a number of friends at Guilford, tho I've never been there. I've heard it's a wonderful place.
I'll keep you abreast of my efforts to design/build a one-room stone/strawbale cottage (warning: may take years at this rate.) I'm new to this forum too, so hopefully we can trade info in the future!
