Las year we didn't plant an awful lot as we didn't buy the place till December (think June in the UK but hotter)
This year I have resolved to do better. Rather than spend a fortune in one go, I have been gradually building up my seed collection and I hope this weekend to start being able to sow some of them indoors. Lookingg through my seedbox I have (NB not all were bought, some harvested, some I was given)
Butternut squash
Asian snake beans
Kohl rabi
broccoli (x2 oops)
Dwarf runner beans
Dandelions (yes I am going to plant those, we don't have any and there are no wild ones near that I can pick)
Kaitaia fire chillies
Lettuce
onions
parsely (it grows better than the grass here)
Gerkins x2 (love em soured)
radishes (mixed varieties)
Leek
Carrots
Red onion
Beetroot
spring onion
courgettes
jalapeno peppers
swede
artichoke
sugar snap peas
sweetcorn
lettuce
marrow
parsnip
capsicum
tamarillo
cherries
quince
pumpkin
lychees
coriander
dill
chick peas
soya beans
apples
avocado (though tbh, they have already been sown and I have two seedlings)
ginger (again already planted and sprouting)
still to buy
loofa (has to be the ultimate self sufficiency if I can get it to grow)fennel
aubergine
okra
quinoa
broad bean
cabbage
nasturtiums
horseraddish
caraway
ooh I get so excited at the thought of all the summer goodies to come.

thanks, but biosecurity NZ would just burn em, you can't post things like seed here without documentation and from what I hear, you need a hell of a lot of documentation (and fees)red wrote:i have a loofa plant growing... its looking a bit sickly tho as aphids are attacking it.. i had the seeds for at least 7 years before I got around to planting them...*if* i get any fruit.. will pass on seeds
good to know that the seeds are viable for that long though.

the bin inn I think :)nessnco wrote:Where did your chickpeas - I can't find any that haven't been heat treated.
I just use the ones you buy for food. They sprouted fine in the UK, though I never got an adult plant as the slugs got them.
If it works, then great, if it doesn't then it is nothing ventured nothing gained and not a lot of money wasted.
I have also sprouted a few other sorts of beans just from buying them in the supermarket.
