Well, when I started reading this, I thought "How stupid!" Then I thought more about it... my twin babies were born 11 weeks early, and I remember a lady walking through the NICU, looking at each baby, comparing birth weights, calling her husband over to see the tiniest, as if they were all in a freak show or something. It did upset me at the time. But regular babies, next to their mothers in the wards... I would probably be offended if people didn't coo over them!

Blimey, that's mad.
Infection control...well we live in such a sterile world, no wonder kids get ill and what have you. A bit of dirt never really hurt anyone and my boys are such grubby little things most of the time. Helps with the imune system, in my humble opinion. They get bathed once or twice a week and get a 'lick and promise' each night before bed on the other days.
When my babies were born I was in a ward of six babies and mums. Pretty noisy actually, especially when you are totally knackered from having your offspring. But I didn't mind other visitors being sweet and having a gawp at my monster 10lb 3 oz baby!

Gosh, has that baby grown in the same fashion since then?
Which reminds me - we had a lamb that was 7 kg. Which is 15 lbs and a bit in old money... And the mother was only 60kg or so, which is about an average weight for a woman, too. Sorry, a bit off the thread - but it probably makes you grateful for a baby of "only" 10 lbs!
