Bronze Age reenactor here!

Post: # 64683Post Midori »

Hi All,

I'm Midori, very keen on self-sufficiency, but, due to illness unfortunately not able to do the hard work neccessary to be as green as I would like!

I'm hoping to get my bone idle son, who has an NVQ in Amenity Horticulture, to help me make some well-raised beds for veg, and flowers. (not holding my breath, however!)

I only have a small garden, and will only be growing small amonts of anything, such as carrots, beet, parsnips, courgettes, runners and some salad. I am also hoping to grow things which would have been eaten in the Bronze Age, such as fat hen.

This of course will not be happening this year, as the beds, etc, need to be built. Also, the Living History season is about to start, so I am going to be busy most weekends in Late July, August and September.

Welcome aboard Midori

When we moved to our house a couple of years ago Fat Hen was one of the only things growing in abundance :)

Welcome to the site- We're ex-Roman reenactors here! hoping to get back into it when offspring a bit more independant. OH into his experimental archeology, and roman cuisine-re-enacting must attract those intrested in surviving before the advent of electricity and industrialisation. But I ask you what have the Romans ever done for us.............

Welcome, I'm sure you'll be happy here
kind thoughts
Deb

Hi Midori, and welcome!

This site is getting to be not only geographically divers, but also historically... Any cooking tips from the bronze age?

Cooking tips? The first year I was involved I tried to roast a leg of wild boar over the open fire, by first wrapping it in a flour/water crust, But....... the darned thing decided it would rather be a work of Art a la Salvador Dali and welded itself to the burning wood!

After most of the day turning the thing I took it back to the archaeologists' camp and finished it off in the 21st Century oven!

Cheers, Midori
