Hello from Kath
Hi, I am Kath and have just been introduced to your site by my sister. My husband and I have just moved back to Northumberland after living in lots of different parts of the country. Over the years we have kept every kind of livestock imaginable (well, almost) and grown all sorts of stuff. We have an acre of ground, so hope to get back to it all again. My concern is, where do I start? The grounds have been kept very formal by the previous owners, with loads of lawns, masses of flower beds, 3 ponds etc etc. I want to make the land as useful as possible, with a huge vegetable garden and possibly livestock.
Any advice on getting started would be gratefully received. Also, it is quite hard moving yet again, and I do have my lonely, 'why am I doing this' days. We still don't really know anyone here (well, we have only been here 4 weeks) and I miss my friends. So, it would be lovely to hear from someone - anyone! Great to meet you all! Love Kath x x

Hiya Kath and welcome to Selfsufficientish.
I know what it's like moving to another area, even one where you've lived before and having to go through that whole making friends bit again. I've moved all over the place over the years.
I'd love to see photos of your garden and the results as you work your way through your plans. It's great to see land being reclaimed like that :D
Who is your sister - does she post on here? Great to see Ish being recommended

Hello from Kath
Hi, how lovely to receive a reply already. Was interested to read of Neeps too. Will look it up. Yes, I intend to keep a photographic record of what we do, so will let you see the progress - assuming we make any. It has rained such a lot and the ground is very waterlogged. Anyway, thanks for your message. Great to hear from you x x x

hi and welcome
we only moved to our new place last autumn, and it is daunting. we make priority lists then something happens and we have to deal with that first!
I guess, best advice is to accept it all takes time

Hi Kath. Welcome to the forum. We have just over an acre and half of it was in pasture grass. We are surrounded by a dairy farm. We have been here five years and some of the time has been tough and some easy. Is your ground flat?, if so you will probably need to raise your veg beds if you can't get rid of the water easily. Rome was not built in a day. So plod away. I also would love to see some pics.

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

So nice to meet you all
Ah, thank you all so much for your welcomes and replies. It is so nice to get them - gardeners are such nice people- and I am so pleased I found you all. Heavy rain today, which is frustrating when I have a veggie garden to dig. But it so good to be back on the land again. Hope you've all had a good, fruitful weekend x x

Hi kath and welcome I would agree with ohareward, tackle it one step at a time.
