The Moon...........and friend?

Post: # 62003Post Martin »

Image - taken this afternoon at 5pm from a viewpoint in Sussex...........
There was a very new moon - with a friend! - not a trick of the light, or a speck - was there for at least 45 minutes before lost to cloud.....Planet/asteroid/space junk?????? :dave:

Well, at 6.00 last night, I was looking at the moon with a star next to it, in the same position... I'm sure the the moon here(from NZ) looked the opposite to that though - unless you reversed the photo somehow?

thanks for that! - prefer the thought of the planet of luuurve to that of space junk any day! (or Bally Branson in another balloon!)
ps the picture is absolutely as taken, and the right way up! - it's the centre of a shot taken with a 450mm tele lens

a lot of it's down to the camera - it's a Dynax 5d with image stabilisation - as the focal length is different from the film version, I used a 75-300mm "35mm" zoom, which is effectively 450mm at the long end on a digi - just rested my elbows on top of a tank, and left the camera to it..........
I was a dreadful cynic about image stabilisation being an unnecessary gimmick - it really does work very well - all of the evening shots I did of the turbines last year were using the same camera/lens, all hand-held, and some are now being used by the manufacturer for publicity. Without stabilisation, it would have been a tripod job.
It's a great shame, Minolta had developed a superb camera system, but I believe it lives on - Sony bought the technology from them, and their new image stabilised camera looks like the result! :cooldude:

You've still got to point it in the right direction... Really nice shot.

Here'sa pic of the moon and venus, taken on the same day as Martin's, but from the UAE.

Although I must say Martin's photo is much better!
