The Big Tent Festival 2007

Post: # 61417Post revdode »

A little late posting this but it seems to fit'ish. I'll be there with Foe on Saturday and with the family on Sunday, they make me work Fridays!

Friday 15th to Sunday 17th June 2007

The Big Tent, Scotland's Festival of Stewardship is returning to Falkland, in Fife, UK.

Opening Times
Friday 15th June 10am to 5pm
Saturday 16th June 10am to 9pm
Sunday 17th June 10am to 6pm

Stewardship is about taking care of the things that matter and leaving our world better than we find it. Good stewards draw from the past, mind the future and always look beyond themselves. Whether you're interested in preparing for climate change, good management of industry, looking after our Scottish and UK heritage, the future of local food, growing a strong craft culture or the places people live in, you'll find people with a common passion at the Big Tent.

This year's festival theme is Minding the Future and we are looking at ways we can make a difference to the world around us.

Attractions at this year's Big Tent Festival

Music - on Saturday the Hazey Janes, Uiscedwr, La Boum! and Adboujaparov will be playing with Moishe's Bagel and Orkestra del Sol among the acts for Sunday. Local acts include Sergeant, Punters and Soul City Shakers.

There's plenty of theatre performances to amuse the children including a welcome return to the Man Who Planted Trees by Puppet State Theatre as well as the fantastic Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre and Puppet Lab with 'Forest Creatures'.

KÃ¥ta's: Tent of Connections Visit the KÃ¥ta's for a stimulating experience of 'eco-connection'. The five giant Siberian tipi's will take you on an inspirational and challenging experience from a birds eye view of the world, to a side-ways take on stone, wood, water.

The Big Tent KÃ¥ta's team are working with Cuban artists, the Mora Brothers to bring extra Caribbean colour and humour to Fife.

Debates, discussions and dialogues will offer visitors the chance to ask questions and engage with experts on big issues such as climate change, one world food and the future of wood. This year we are delighted to welcome - among others - energy campaigner Mandy Meikle, BBC Scotland Trustee Jeremy Peat, chair of London Food Jenny Jones, Stop Climate Chaos board member and Creativity Partnership Director Anne Miller as well as Professor Jan Bebbington, Vice chair of the Sustainable Development Commission, youth parliament members, Professor Stuart Haszeldine and EAE managing director Glen Bennett.

Drop in workshops and exhibitions will also help visitors to 'mind the future'. A Stewardship Challenge will be launched for visitors to sign up and support efforts to reduce carbon footprints. Our film and poetry tent will show thought provoking films including Black Gold, newly released to UK.

Other entertainment will involve storytelling, drumming, demonstrations on a range of traditional skills such as dry stone mortaring, stone sculpting, potting and wood carving, poetry, renga workshops, reflective sessions, dance workshops, face and henna painting and a full range of children's activities including a sensory treasure trail developed for the festival.

There will be food from a range of providers who believe in fresh, local, affordable, organic and fair trade food and drink. Our main caterers for this year are Hendersons of Edinburgh.
