Year of food and farming (Sept 2007- July 2008)

A Government campaign I agree with, well I never! Here's the Blurb....
"The Year of Food and Farming is a campaign to promote healthy living by giving young people direct experience of countryside, farming and food. During the Year, children will have the opportunity to:

follow the story from 'field to fork'
explore the importance of food
make informed decisions about food and healthy nutrition
watch what happens on a real-life farm
experience what the countryside can offer
learn more about environmental issues linked to food and the countryside. "

I've already emailed the link to my boys school and they registered there and then! Head came over to see me this am asking if I wanted to be involved, and thanks for the info- so fingers crossed we can do something to get the kids into it.

It's sad really that we need a Government campaign for that - shouldn't every year be a year of food and farming?

I agree - it is sad that we need it... but hey, we do.

I'll post this on Neeps! too Deb- and will pass the info on to my son's schools - a lot of farming folk there anyway so hopefully lots of support :D

Wow! That's going to be super scary for a whole heap of people who don't realise that the meat that comes wrapped in plastic in the supermarket was once a cute and happy little lambie!

OK, enough of the cynicism - but it is a good idea.

Some people are shocked just at finding out that potatoes don't grow on trees, but in the dirty ground... Yuk!!!

Cheers for passing on the info Shirlz, I agree its tragic that we've got to the state of affairs that we need such an initiative but its a step in the right direction. I'm hoping the school will look into the Organic farm trip I've suggested too, I've volunteered to go along and help so I get to have a go on the trailer ride!
