Elderflowers are out! Time for foraging and fritters!

Yup on Sunday afternoon we went for a woodland walk and were really suprised to see loads of elderflowers! (Especially after my comment on here the day before saying I couldn't wait for them to come out! lol)

So we picked some and had elderflower fritters and elderflower pancakes for pudding on Sunday night.

Not out up here yet - I can't wait for them either.

Got hawthorn in blossom in Alford though - think that's early!

Would someone please be able to tell me what they look like as I have seen something that sort of resembles (I think) but not sure. Don't want to poison myself!

pick em on a sunny day for best flavour. and dont keep them hanging around or they begin to smell of cat pee.....

I was out on my bike last night and noticed some elderflowers, it was in a sheltered spot but all the same elderflower at the start of May in the middle of Scotland!

The Hawthorn was also lovely, the midges less so.

I saw some elder trees on walk the other night and they're not ready by Banchory yet Shirlz! However we do have th trees and I will have to look out some recipes

Not out yet here. I've got a couple of nice elder trees near me, and i#m eagerly awaitng flowers and berries this year - now that i have an idea of what to do with them!!

YAY - I know that there are loads where we got our elderberries from last year but that's a fair drive from here.

I want some elder trees in my woodland bit - must try and get some.

Be a little careful as they can get a bit invasive. Kept under control though, they really attract the birds. You can get some now with very pretty purple flowers but I can't remember if they are edible or not.
