Hi everyone, just joined up after a search for nettle beer recipes!

Im 22 and Live in Wiltshire and slowly embarking on what im trying to convice everyone around me as a better way of life!

I live in the countryside and as my profile thingy here suggest i am a 'countryside contractor' and spend alot of my working time involved with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
I have experience in hedgelaying and coppicing and also enjoy a good romp in woodland ( ahah! )

My Girlfriend emma is also sat here with me, she is still learning but we will let her off, she is after all from the big smoke!
I have cunningly got her involved in my veg patch this year ;)
We live in a small bungalow rented from my parents with our little baby Basil, a Rescue terrier who picked us to live with about 2 months ago... ish!
Oh i also have some pictures of some of the things ive done if you all want to see!
Anyway hope i can be of service and i will be trawling everything on here from now, great resource! pleased to meet you all!

hedgelaying and coppicing eh? that sounds useful!

What style of hedgelaying do you do? Devon seems to have one thats different from everywhere else

and coppicing... are you the bloke to ask what trees to plant?

My nettle brew is bubbling away as we speak so i thoguht id check back here,

Basically our hedgelaying technique would be classed as 'wiltshire' its a bit of the best bits from everywhere mixed with local knowledge on what works.

Trees are definatly my thing, im forever learning but i know the odd thing or two... ;)
this year we also planted nearly 1400m of traditional countryside hedgemix!

Welcome Adam ... I have a hawthorn hedge what needs fixing - do you do hedge calls to Tasmania?

1400 miles! (I am assuming miles and not metres ). That sure is impressive. Here in Tasmania we have many many hundreds of miles of very 'traditional' English countryside with hedgelined roads - can always make for slow going during hedge trimming time of the year.

definatly meters.... all our work is done by hand, (bar hole, insert plant, heel in, apply guard..) none of those fancy furrow and drop machines, blimey.. my workforce would strike if i told them we had that much to do !

My personal dislike of the machines is a) the plough line you cut is prone to open up in dry summers thus exposing your plants roots and b) you dont get a very successful 'mix' whereas i dont have any plant of any type next to one another, that way if something doesnt do so well in that ground condition its next door neighbour should hopefully fill the gap!

However boasts of 900m a day planting with that method do make alot of folks pound signs flash up i am sure!!
