Hello from Aberdeenshire

Just a quick hello! Just found your website and it looks like it's going to be a gem.

We're about to move to a (rented) cottage with completely uncultivated garden, loads of friendly rabbits and a free rein to improve it.

I hope that we'll be able to use the space to edge towards providing for ourselves. We both work full time so self sufficiency won't be on the cards but reducing our impact on the environment is my aim.

AllI have to do is figure out an apt and amusing signature!

Comfy sofas and cups of coffee sound great. My main computer location is work.. I have a full working day driving my desk so when I get home the last thing on my mind will be the 'puter.

Shirley, we're currently by Midmar/Sauchen and will be migrating over the hill to Banchory come end of April.

I'm really tempted by the idea of straw bale beds for my veggies (seeing as I don't have the resources for a straw bale house yet). Just need to pick a suitable location and figure out rabbit defences!

If anyone has any pratical north east advice on straw bale beds I'd love to hear it... or rabbits

You are not far from us at all then... you could have joined us for the Neeps! meet up on Saturday. We had a house full and it was great fun.

I'm interested in trying some strawbale gardening too - rabbit defences.. hmm, well we haven't really had any problems with rabbits so far. You could always try a gun - rabbit pie etc.. that might just dissuade them from digging up your veggies. Go on.. tell me you are a vegetarian

No i'm not a vegetarian and wouldn't mind shooting a few rabbits to get some food (save on the food bil and be nice to tan the pelts to make a winter blanket) However having spoken to a few folk, shooting them make little impact on the population once they are well established. I'll have to see how the flower pots survive when we arrive that should give an indication.

hi, Dont know much about bail beds but rabbit proof fencing is quite easy, i wont bore you with it here, but feel free to ask when you have decided.

Lots of advice I have read says shoot them. Free meat running around! Rabbit proof fencing seems to be a bit of a hassle you have to get the fence 3 foot deep into the ground. (I think thats right).
