What nickname did you have as a kid? Ghost - 'cause I'm so pale.

What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"? Rich, famous and beautiful. These days I'd be happy with rich...

What do you do for work now? Housewife but looking for something that pays.

Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking? I've always been interested in frugality and there is a lot of overlap with self-sufficiency, permaculture and so on. Many moons ago there was a publication called The Penny Pincher Paper by a couple called John and Irma Mustoe which was very inspiring to me.

What was the first food you ever caught to eat?
Does swallowing flies count? I'm currently rounding up snails.

What was the first thing you ever dismantled? That I was supposed to be dismantling, you mean? Probably a plug.

What is under your bed? Spare covers, curtains, woollen blankets for re-enactment and, sometimes, a part-siamese cat with an attitude problem.

What is on your mouse pad? Greebo.

What scares you? Stupidity. The amount of deliberate dumbing down and ignorance I see absolutely terrifies me.

What gave you your last big belly-laugh? The dog being mad.

What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door? The chicken house.

What did you eat for tea last night? Cheese and potato pie.

What charity/ies do you support? Most of the ones with a shop around here plus Wellcat, the RSPB and Farms for City Children.

What is your least favourite chore/job around the house? Ironing.

If you were to be banished to an island for 2 years, and could take one person with you, Who would you take and why? Husband.

What was the last CD that you bought? Tequilla by Brand New Sin.

What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it? I can't recall. We don't do Giftmas so that's most of the usual disasters avoided.

What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)? Bottling things up.

What is your favourite drink? Mead.

Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world? Shropshire (minus Telford).

Here I am... took me so long to think of the questions, i didn't have time to answer them!

What nickname did you have as a kid?
Nickadopolis... used to stamp my feet and clench my fists... "Don't call me that, Uncle!" I have never liked things that don't make sense.

What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"?
Wanted to be a nurse on an army base for a while... inspired by Hotlips Hoolihan from M.A.S.H., then a vet, and by highschool a school guidance officer.

What do you do for work now?
Youth Development, Career Guidance and Fitness Training

Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking?
My Grandma and Grandad fer sure.

What was the first thing you ever planted?
Vegies with my grandparents and Snapdragons all on my own. That was the first garden bed I remember digging. Spent hours amusing myself making them talk to each other once they bloomed.

What was the first food you ever caught to eat?
... I think that would be rabbit, or it may have been a chook...

What was the first thing you ever dismantled?
It was a little box cassette player that I got when I was about 10 - and i still have it! And it still works!

What is under your bed?
Bike magazines... old diaries... Some newspaper clippings... an probably other 'important' stuff, that is so important I have forgotten what it is.

What is on your mouse pad?
This comp has a black pad with arm rest bit... very posh. (Mouse is black too, so I have lost count of how many times i have tried to steer with the arm rest bit  )

What scares you?
Someone hurting my kids, or anyone's kids for that matter. I look angry when I'm scared.

What gave you your last big belly-laugh?
A young fella was telling me the other day how he is going to move out and share a house with 2 other young people. He then asked me very seriously how he should deal with his sleep walking and the fact his parents often find him sleeping on the couch fully naked cuddled up with his fullsize electric fan!

What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door?
A sign reminding me..."Don't lose your child-like heart"

What did you eat for tea last night?
Snags & Beans

What charity/ies do you support?
I support Childrens charities, but would always prefer to help a kid directly than buy a raffle ticket or whatever. Instead of throwing money in a donation tin or bin, I would rather say thanks and pop it straight in a kids hand.

What is your least favourite chore/job around the house?
:? Dishes, i think. Do they ever just go away???

If you were to be banished to an island for 2 years, and could take one person with you, Who would you take and why?
Only 2 years?... Heck, I'll take this guy and deal with the repercussions when I get back...
Image

What was the last CD that you bought?
er, I think it was Led Zeppelin How the West was won..

What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it?
A mate gave me this big owl sitting on a pile of books for my birthday. I just stared at it, and thought what the heck is this and why on earth did he buy this for me... I asked him if it was on special! It is sitting in the front room, and always confuses me every time I look at it.

What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)?
My most annoying thing is prolly that i don't make any effort to remember the date or time. Everyone else always knows it, and I see no problem in just asking someone if I need to know.
...Folks get real annoyed with that... and think it is just some massive crime of irresponsibility when i ask them to ring me the day prior to when they want something done.

What is your favourite drink?
Coffee, coffee and more coffee

Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world?
Probably on my bike on the highway some place.. that always feels good. Aw, hang on... I love being beside an animal when they give birth. That is always a magic moment.

Helen

What nickname did you have as a kid?
It started as Nell - then my sis called me Smelly Nelly and then it ended up as Mad Harry. I always seem to end up with nick names - some of the more recent have been Wendy (???) and Psycho!!

What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"?
Always wanted to do something really practical or at the very least be a secretary

What do you do for work now?
Im an electrican on a building site of over 100 new dwellings and I love it!!

Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking?
I guess thinking about it it was my ex-husb!! Poor thing suffered from terrible affluenza!! He was such a selfish g*t that the kids and I had to shop for clothes in the charity shop and forage for food. More recently tho, Chris has crystalised what I always thought into action

What was the first thing you ever planted?
I always hated gardening as a kid - my mum would pull the weeds out and pile them up and I had to pick up the piles and put then in the bin. The trouble was there was always a thorn or something squidgy in there - yuck!! More recently I did plant some wild flower seeds in the garden of my last house and very pretty they were too

What was the first food you ever caught to eat?
Runner beans - they don't half leg it round your garden!! lol

What was the first thing you ever dismantled?
Any doll that anyone ever gave me - I'd take them into the bath, pretend I was a shark and pull their heads arms and legs off!! (Could this explain one of my nick names???)

What is under your bed?
Hair doing stuff that I rarely use, lots of books, extra bedding, shoes - I'd love to say a pleasure drawer but can't work out what one is!!!

What is on your mouse pad?
My mouse!

What scares you?
When faced with something that scares me I tend to look at it and ask myself what is it about it that scares me, then I ask myself what would I do if I wasn't scared - so on a practical level I avoid being scared. That said - it terrifies me that avarice, calumny, selfishness, negativity and general nastiness becomes such a way of life that we all become lost in it.

What gave you your last big belly-laugh?
Reading the posts on here - I loved the one about Boots having balloons staticked to her while she was asleep!!

What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door?
Rarely use the back door so I have to tell about the blue hyacinths at the front

What did you eat for tea last night?
Just consulted with Chris and the kids and none of us can remember!!!

What charity/ies do you support?
Give to and buy from most charity shops - mostly cancer research and ARC. I also give to premature babies. But I do worry about door step/street collectors etc

What is your least favourite chore/job around the house?
Disciplining the kids!!

If you were to be banished to an island for 2 years, and could take one person with you, Who would you take and why?
I'd have to take Chris - hes a joiner so he could make us a shelter, he's also great at growing things and knows loads about whats good to eat - oh and there are a few other reasons too!! lol

What was the last CD that you bought?
T Rex compilation - its really cool to dance around the kitchen to!!

What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it?
Don't think I've ever had one - unless you count the pack of revenge cards my sis gave me once!! lol!! They did make me laugh tho!! If I did ever get one I didn't want I'd pass it on

What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)?
According to my neighbours its live here!!! Dont ask!!

What is your favourite drink?
Wee Willy Tails - (its how I met Chris!! lol)

Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world?
BED!!! (or anywhere with coffee first thing in the morning!)

Chris

What nickname did you have as a kid?
Never had one that really stuck, but closest one was Walkers Crisps

What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"?
Zoologist, Biologist, Ecologist, but was told by careers teacher that nobody would want anybody from these backgrounds, How wrong they were!!! (Wish I had never listened.......)

What do you do for work now?
Foreman Joiner/Site Foreman/Site Agent plus GDB and other assorted duties lol

Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking?
That would be my mum and my grandad, you should have seen the size of his rhubarb! We used to pick it as kids and walk round the garden playing umbrellas! No worries about picking it in the rain lol

What was the first thing you ever planted?
Radishes, but the cats dug up most of them lol, also helped my mum to plant shallots

What was the first food you ever caught to eat?
Was a trout when i first tried river fishing.

What was the first thing you ever dismantled?
Think that was the child safety gate at the bottom of the stairs lol

What is under your bed?
I daren't even look! I'm a pack rat, and Helen is much worse! could be anything! Bogey men, the secret to eternal youth, lost civilisations etc.....

What is on your mouse pad?
Helen said it, the mouse, having said that, the mouse pad is a digi pad too so it's funky anyway lol

What scares you?
People jumping out and saying BOO! I then procede to beat them about the head with the nearest object. If this is performed by a child that would most often be their leg, hence all our kids are now held together with velcro. It saves on wear and tear on the carpet, as the first few years it was very difficult to remove all the blood stains from the walls, carpets and ceilings etc. PMSL

What gave you your last big belly-laugh?
What I said upstairs lol (Read my last answer)

What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door?
Usually stars as Helen has this thing for hanging bits of "whatever" in the back doorway. I think she puts them at a height that is designed to knock me unconscious on purpose!!! (I'd think she was trying to bump me off for the inheritance if I had any money......)
:-S

What did you eat for tea last night?
Same as Helen, but what was on my plate not hers!

What charity/ies do you support?
Same as Helen

What is your least favourite chore/job around the house?
Cutting the grass!!!!
Absolutely hate it! Might have something to do with the fact that, as a kid, my brother was let off from this chore due to hay fgever, but as soon as I had finished he was out there sunbathing! Go figure?

If you were to be banished to an island for 2 years, and could take one person with you, Who would you take and why?
Obvious! Helen!!!! Got enough bruises as it is without getting any more. The doctor says that my periods of memory loss are getting better, but I can't remember what he is going on about!?!?!?!?

What was the last CD that you bought?
A blank one for copying photos onto lol

What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it?
Not didn't want, but got twice. Anastacia CD for my birthday a couple of years ago. Gave it back as they didn't have it and they were glad for it

What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)?
LIVE HERE SHE SAYS!!!!! Helen means according to the neighbours lol

What is your favourite drink?
At the moment, rum and green ginger wine. Hic!!!

Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world?
Gonna be soppy here. Sorry!!!!
It's not where, it's who I'm with. Helen knows I could be anywhere with her and I would be happy as Larry
(Oi!! Who's Larry??? :-S H)

Ahhh! Ahhhhhh Helen!!!! Watch the bruises will ya!

ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH! THUNK!

:-D
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

In scotland a "clooty dumpling" is steamed spicey fruit cake. It is cooked in a cloth bag (hence the "clooty")In my family we have them as birthday cake

I'm not sure that you would have it for tea, and I have no idea what slumpie is.

On the subject of hideous sounding food, 'aunt bessies pork fagots' are a personal fave
