Perennials

Post: # 49802Post 9ball »

I've just been reading some of the articles on the Plants For A Future website, particularly this one on alternative edible leaves. The whole idea of a load of perennial veg seems very tempting to try out. Has anybody done this? Also does anybody have any idea where you can get any seeds for these plants, I've tried googling for most of them without much success! Any tips and advice very much appreciated,

Thanks

Tom

Very interesting, there's a few 'garden plants' that you might just find in garden centres like rose of sharon, although you might want to check the latin name as I have a feeling it's one of those common names given to a dozen different plants.

I have some experiance with wild garic, my Dad gave me a few bulbs before we did much with the garden saying 'these are pretty, don't know what they are but they turned up and grow ever so easily.' Hummm, now it's everywhere and even piling weed mat and gravel doesn't seem to stop it! It's supposed to be nice early in season and you don't use the bulbs just the leaves, and I wish i'd known that (and being able to eat young ground elder) before trying to kill it all in my pre-self-suf days!!!
