Storing spuds - again!

Post: # 4971Post Magpie »

So, I popped my seed spuds in my (unheated) bedroom wardrobe, where it is nice and dark and cool. But now I checked them and they are sprouting - what to do?!! The sprouts are quite long already (out of sight out of mind, unfortunately!), and, being winter here, I can't plant them for a couple of months yet. Is all lost?

The same thing happened to me because I bought mine early - if you don't you don't get so much choice. I put them in a dark cupboard in my cellar which was really cold but they still sprouted. Then I put them in egg boxes into the light for the last few weeks before planting.

When I planted them the sprouts were about 5cm long (instructions said to plant when 1-2cm long!) and my spuds were fine. Just need a bit of care when planting.
