Dug my first spuds up!
A small but momentus occasion here in BOA ~ We unearthed four of our potato plants today. Small and medium ant egg shaped spuds but lots and lots of them. About 4lbs or so. No pests, no blight and absolutely delicious! (smothered in butter as well)
Thought I'd share that with you all.

That's excellent Shiney! I want to grow spuds next year.
I have just been down to my plot (which is really just an overgrown dumping ground) to find raspberries and blackcurrants hiding away!
Which isn't bad considering I didn't plant, water or feed them!
Its given me the kick up the proverbial to keep going with it, its so hard at the moment as the weeds can grow faster than we can attack them. At the moment it seems to be either raining or red hot which surprisingly is just the weather weeds love!

Congratulations
- reading that is making me hungry!
Don't worry about funny looks from the neighbours, it's time to get concerned when the men in white coats arrive and bring those funny jackets that button up in the back...
Well, my potatoes do at least look very attractive. Can't remember which varieties I planted, of course, but one of them has very nice dark green glossy leaves, and the other is flowering beautifully

Thanks for being so enthusiastic about my first crop!
We are growing the potatoes in our own compost and general garden soil, in a tiny strip of garden about 12ft long and about 1 and half feet wide. Small, I know, but we are happy with our hoard so far!
I think it's great for us all to be so happy about what we grow. We take ages sorting out the seedlings, watering, deslugging etc and when you see the results it's very satisfying.

Well done Shiney!
I think a bit of enthusiasm over this stuff is good
, so bugger trhe neighbours!
There is a special sort of satisfaction that comes from producing your own food that can never be gained by working for money and then buying it. So I reckon it's worth enjoying!
Onya Shiney, keep up the good work!

It's fun isn't it Shiney, this is my first year at growing spuds too. So satisfying digging them up and going through the soil and finding another, and another. Never thought growing spuds would be so interesting as I always thought they were a really boring staple veg (apart from new potatoes).
I think my 2nd earlies might have been affected by the drought here though we'll wait and see. It's very hard to water them enough.
